NAMI Family-to-Family Class

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Free Family-to-Family Class, an eight-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental illness, will be held from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 5 through Nov. 24, at the Eloise Traina Center of Hope, 320 Benton Road, Salem. The group setting of NAMI Family-to-Family provides mutual support and shared positive impact. Sharing one’s own experience may help others in the calss. In the program, participants will learn about: how to solve problems and communicate effectively, taking care of yourself and managing your stress, supporting your loved one with compassion, finding and using local supports and services, up-to-date information on mental health conditions and how they affect the brain, how to handle a crisis, current treatments and therapies, and the impact of mental health conditions on the entire family. Cambridge bus trip

Lisbon Historical Society is sponsoring a bus trip to Cambridge on Saturday, Nov. 8. The costumed guide embarking at Cambridge will tell the group the story of the Dickens Victorian Village while passing the 163 mannequins in 96 scenes that line the street. After a quick stop at Kennedy’s Bakery, the group will visit the Dickens Welcome Center to learn how the mannequins are made, dress in Victorian costumes, make photo memories and learn more about the Dickens Victorian Village. Additional time allows for visiting unique and antique shops, strolling the street viewing the mannequin scenes and reading the plaques describing Victorian time. Later the group will travel to the Cambridge Country Club to have an elegant tea with Queen Victoria featuring a four-course meal while the queen tells stories of her life in London. Next, the group will return to downtown to watch the Dickens Courthouse Holiday Light Show for an hour, with over 85,000 lights synchronized to holiday music. The cost is $110. Interfaith Genealogy Workshop

What’s Your History?, a free Interfaith Genealogy Workshop, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18 at New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, 111 E. Chestnut St., Lisbon. Bring a phone, iPad, or laptop.

CAACC Purse Bingo

The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County Inc. (CAACC) is hosting its first Purse Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. (doors open at 3 p.m.) at the Washingtonville VFW, 575 S. County Road, Washingtonville. Tickets are $35 each and include a bingo booklet for 10 games for 10 purses. Daubers will be available for purchase separately. Additional fun: bonus game ($10), 50/50, door prizes, Chinese auction and more. Check out the purses up for grabs on Facebook: CAA of Columbiana County in the weeks leading up to the event. Second Harvest fair auction bids

YOUNGSTOWN — Individuals, comapnies and organizations may purchase livestock at the Canfield Fair Livestock Auction/Sale in the new Canfield Fair Event Center to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley for distribution to hungry families in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties.

Bid online by downloading the Canfield Fair App “Canfield Fairgrounds” from the app store. Call Douglas Martig, Mahoning County Livestock Committee, at 330-720-3793 or Mary Kay Shotts at 330-506-9264 to be a donor to this project and/or information about the registration process.

Livestock available to purchase for donation to the food bank includes market beef, hogs, poultry-broilers, ducks, turkeys, goats and lambs.

Livestock purchased to be donated to the food bank will be processed by Winona Frozen Foods and Lehman Poultry. Processing fees will be added to the purchase price (market beef will be $1.05; hogs will be $1.05 pound, lambs and goats will be $200 each, broilers $6 each, ducks $8 and turkeys $27.
