Guilford boat parade
The Guilford Lake Civic Association will hold a Light Up Boat Parade today beginning at 7:30 p.m. and a bonfire on the beach after the parade with hot dogs and s'mores. The general meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Ruritan building with guest speaker John Horn, a historian who will be sharing information about the Sandy, Beaver canals and the important role Guilford Lake played in the history of the canal system. An Ice Cream Social will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Ruritan pavilion.
Firestone concert series
The full schedule of free Idabelle Firestone Concert Series will kick off on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 3 p.m. at the Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Garden in Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park in Columbiana. Free admission and parking in the lot at the main entrance of the park. Visitors will enjoy the Oak Street Band, the Keller Family Singers and Sassa Brass. Covered seating and shuttle from parking lot to hilltop amphitheater provided. Sponsored by the Firestone Park Cultural and Custodial Committee of Columbiana, a 501(c)(3) organization. Rain or shine. Rain venue is at Grace Church on South Main. Free concerts at Firestone will take place every Sunday in September at 3 p.m. at Firestone Park at the gathering place. For future performers plus the return of the Texas Tenors stay tuned to Facebook and view the various signage in the community.
WB Lady Ruritans
The West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club met Monday, Aug. 18.
Shirley Logsdon introduced the speaker, Carrie Pennington, manager of Sophia Women's Clinic. They help women when they find out they are pregnant at a difficult time. They've had clients from ages 13 to 56 years. Clients receive health care, advice and keeping the child with blessings. Free for clients. Serving women with compassion and truth since 1981 in Salem.
Robin Mayer, president, welcomed everyone. The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of God Bless America. Viola Blanchard read the devotions.
A Thank You was received from Caden Zion for the Build Your Dollar scholarship.
Secretary Sandy Bates read the minutes. Treasurer Jean Zion read the treasurer's report.
The club's bake sale at the Damascus Ruritan Car Show was a great success. There is one more bake sale this year on Aug. 30 at Timashamie Campground.
The Zone dinner will be in Damascus Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. Dessert for dinner at St. Anne's Oct. 14.
