Rettig Sr. reappointed to board

Gov. Mike DeWine on Friday reappointed Jon W. Rettig Sr. of Columbiana to the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors for a term beginning Aug. 29, 2025, and ending June 30, 2030.

Local scratch-off lottery winner

(WKBN) – A Salem man is richer Friday after having won big from an Ohio Lottery scratch-off ticket. A Salem man won $1 million on a Billion Scratch-Off ticket, choosing the cash option of $500,000. After state and federal taxes, he will receive $360,000. He bought the ticket from his go-to retailer — Robert’s Country Store on Stratton Road in Goshen Township. This same man won $10,000 on a $10 scratch-off earlier this year.

Labor Day Banquet in Salem

Darin Odey will sponsor the Dine in or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include fried chicken, dice potatoes with peppers and onions, corn, coleslaw, fresh vegetables and fruit, pudding. Dine in will park in designated area behind the building and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. TQGIBT September meeting

That Quilt Group I Belong To (TQGIBT) will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at The Rotary Building at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield. Doors usually open at 6:30 p.m. This month’s program will be a demonstration of 10 ways to construct a Disappearing Pinwheel block. The kits for Christmas Stockings will be ready and available at this meeting. Members are also encouraged to make heart or angel ornaments for a Christmas tree at the Davis Center and to bring quilts/items that were entered in the Canfield Fair for Show and Tell. STHS 2nd annual Rummage Sale

The Springfield Township Historical Society (STHS) will be having its 2nd annual Rummage Sale three Saturdays in September – Sept. 13, 20 and 27 — at the museum in Petersburg. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday. Donated items are needed (no clothes) prior to the rummage sale. Items will be accepted on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. during their regular monthly open house for their “Afternoon at the Museum” program and on Friday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Or if another date and time is needed to donate items, call 330-340-4490 to make an appointment or email springfieldtwphistory@gmail.com.
