At the August meeting with the Public Employee Retirees Chapter 18, guest speakers were Honorable Judge Theresa Dellick and Magistrate Gina DeGenova from Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.

As juvenile crimes affect the local communities, judges, legislators and professionals across the country have found that jail time alone for juvenile offenders has not worked. This has encouraged Juvenile Courts to seek programs to rehabilitate juveniles. However, when guns are involved in youth crimes, they do get jail time.

Dellick and DeGenova presented information about the vital youth programs at The Juvenile Justice Center that addresses complex behavioral problems in juvenile offenders. Dellick continues to focus attention on youth accountability and responsibility, public safety and restoration of victims’ rights.

Among the many programs at the court, Dellick also coordinates with Mahoning County Schools, for The School-Justice Partnership Early Warning Systems.

Family support has led to The Parent Project Program, which is a 10-week parenting, education and support group for parents and caregivers of juvenile offenders.

Dellick has assisted drafting juvenile legislation and is a national, state and local seminar presenter at juvenile court judges’ conferences, bar associations, schools, colleges and community organizations and agencies.

Starting at $2.99/week.
