Roxy Theatre hosting screening of ‘Hocus Pocus,’ costume party

MINERVA — Minerva’s Roxy Theatre will host a screening of “Hocus Pocus” and costume party on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with the costume contest starting at 7 p.m. and followed by the film. Dress as your favorite Sanderson sister or any other character from the movie for a chance to win a prize. There will be group and individual winners.

“Hocus Pocus” is a 1993 American horror fantasy comedy film, directed by Kenny Ortega, and written by Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris. The film tells the story of a Halloween-hating teenager named Max Dennison, who inadvertently resurrects three witches, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy, and must risk his life to protect his sister Dani by defeating the trio with the help of Dani, a classmate crush, a friendly zombie, and an immortal black cat.

Tickets are $5 for kids 12 and younger and $8 for regular admission. The village’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area will be in effect and patrons may purchase beverages in official DORA cups from the Normandy Inn, Stoney Inn, Que Pasa Mexican Restaurant, and Sandy Springs Brewing Company and carry them throughout the designated area, including into the Roxy. Concessions may also be purchased at the theatre.

The Roxy Theater is located at 120 N. Market St. in Minerva’s historic downtown, and is handicap accessible.
