Venison 101 workshop

OSU Extension Mahoning County, in partnership with the Ohio Division of Wildlife, invites the community to take part in a unique Venison 101: Harvest to Table workshop on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Canfield Fairgrounds and at OSU Extension Mahoning County. This hands-on program will walk participants through the complete process of harvesting and preparing venison–from field dressing to cooking. Whether new to hunting, looking to expand food preservation skills, or simply curious about venison as a healthy and sustainable protein source, this workshop offers valuable instruction and practical experience. Participants will learn: Harvesting, gutting, and butchering techniques; how to make jerky and sausage; preservation methods, including canning and freezing; and cooking tips and nutrition benefits of venison. Attendees will also enjoy free venison taco samples, courtesy of the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The workshop is limited to the first 30 paid registrants. The cost is $20 per person, which includes instruction from specialists and class resources. Youth are welcome but must register and attend with a registered adult. The program will be held rain or shine; participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair if needed. For registration call 330-533-5538.

Starting at $2.99/week.
