Banquet in Salem
The Dine in or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building will be sponsored by LCBA of St Paul-Salem. The menu will include sausage sandwich with onions and peppers, macaroni and cheese, peas, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and cookies. Dine in will park in designated area behind the building and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. Historical society meeting
The Historical Society of Columbiana & Fairfield Township will host its Fall Quarterly Meeting and Program at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Columbiana. Speaker will be David Humphrey of the Winona Historical Society presenting a slide presentation of “Tragedy to Triumph, 100 years of Airships.” Sept. 3, 2025 marked the 100th anniversary of the crash of the USS Shenandoah. The society will have a brief meeting before the program to elect four members to the board of trustees. Bob Belding, Monica Detwiler, Vaughn Musser, and Richard Scullin are willing to serve. The public is invited and families with young children interested in zeppelins, airships, blimps are encouraged to attend.
Youth pheasant hunt
The Columbiana County Federation of Conservation Clubs, in partnership with the Ohio Division of Wildlife, is hosting its first youth Pheasant Hunt in Columbiana County Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 1 and 2, at Zepernick Wildlife Area, 26687 state Route 172, New Alexander. Hours are 8 a.m. to sunset on Saturday and sunrise to sunset on Sunday. The federation plans to release 100 ring-necked pheasants prior to the hunt. Youth hunters may take two male pheasants, along with rabbits, squirrels and other legal game. Participants must have a valid youth hunting license, passed a hunter education course and be accompanied by a non-hunting adult 18 years of age or older. Youths may also hunt with an apprentice license without passing a hunter safety course, but must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult 21 years of age or older who possesses a current hunting license. The hunt is free and pre-registration is not required. Hunting location maps and information will be available at the Zepernick Lake main parking lot on state Route 172 on Saturday morning.
Lisbon holiday help
The Lisbon First United Methodist Church will be helping families during the holidays by providing clothes to children. Households must live in the 44432 zip code. Those in need may call 330-424-4013 beginning Nov. 5 through Nov. 14 (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Clothes will be distributed during the Small Village Big Hearts Holiday Giving Event.
