OSU Extension offering lifestyle change program

CANFIELD – The Ohio State University Extension – Mahoning County is offering the PreventT2 Lifestyle Change Program, a proven, year-long educational series designed to help participants prevent or delay type 2 diabetes and take control of their health.

The previous PreventT2 class series was highly successful, with participants reporting positive lifestyle changes, great discussion, and a supportive environment that helped them stay on track. OSU Extension is excited to offer the program again in 2026 due to community demand and interest.

PreventT2 is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Through group sessions led by a trained lifestyle coach, participants learn skills to make lasting changes such as eating healthier, increasing physical activity, managing stress, and staying motivated.

The next program begins Wednesday, Jan. 28,and meets weekly on Wednesdays until April 29 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the OSU Extension Office, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield.

Sessions meet weekly through April 29 (excluding holidays).

Pre-registration is required and participants may miss no more than four sessions to successfully complete the program. Class size is limited.

During each session, participants will gain valuable skills, including: healthy eating and portion control; adding physical activity to daily life; staying on track when eating out; understanding food cues and triggers; overcoming obstacles to healthy changes.

“Being part of a supportive group can make all the difference,” said LuAnn Duncan, Family and Consumer Sciences Educator at OSU Extension – Mahoning County. “Participants gain tools for better health and support from others working toward the same goals.”

The PreventT2 program is open to adults at risk for prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. A simple blood test from one’s healthcare provider can help determine their risk.
