Winona Ruritans hold family member dinner
WINONA – The Winona Ruritan Club held its annual Father, Son, Grandson and Family member dinner meeting at the Winona Friends Church Tuesday, Feb. 24.
President Rob Doyle Jr. called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. He welcomed all members and guests to this history making meeting with a total of 76 people being present. The meeting was the club’s largest monthly meeting ever.
Doyle Jr. gave a special welcome to Kenneth and Dianne Hammontree of “Living History Productions” providing the entertainment for the evening.
Doyle Jr. asked everyone to stand and sing “America” and then to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to remain standing while Homer Althouse gave the Invocation.
The caterer served a dinner consisting of tossed salad with choice of dressings, fried chicken thighs and legs, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, dinner roll and cake.
Secretary Elmer Lee Stamp called the roll of members who introduced their guests when their name was called. There were 23 members and 53 guests present. Doyle Jr. asked for a motion to dispense with the monthly secretary and treasurer reports; it was a unanimous motion and second by all members.
Each month club members sing Happy Birthday to the members born in that month. The January meeting was canceled so the club sang to Tom Richey for January; and to Jason McDevitt, Buster Rogowsky and Homer Huprich for February. The club had one guest who admitted to being born in February, Duane Marhefka, and the club included him in the sing along.
Doyle Jr. then gave a few announcements: The club has the names of three seniors graduating high school this Spring; Grace Elizabeth Lance; Carrie Ann Kneodler; and Will McEver. If the club has other family members graduating, inform Lee Stamp as soon as possible.
Stamp passed out the club’s semi-annual “NEED” sheet for the upcoming All-You-Can-Eat Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, March 21; it also includes requests to help set-up the cooking trailer, and set up tables on Thursday, March 19.
Before that the club will be advancing to “Daylight Savings Time” on Sunday, March 8, and remind everyone that the “United Community Scholarship Fund” will be having the All-You-Can-Eat Eggstravagansa on Saturday, March 7, at the Winona Friends Church from 7 a.m. to noon.
Stamp also passed out tickets to sell prior to club’s own breakfast on the March 21. There are posters available for putting up to advertise.
Michael Kneodler has the tickets for the club’s Spring Gun Raffle: a Henry Big Boy Brass in the new
Buckhammer .360 cal. As usual the club is only selling 100 tickets, each at $20. These funds go toward the club’s scholarship program.
As a club members are continuing support of the Winona Little League Baseball program and also the Winona Little League Soccer program that help so many youth in the area.
Doyle Jr. again thanked everyone for coming and hoped all had safe travels home. He then re-introduced Kenneth and Dianne Hammontree and Kenneth entertained the group with his portrayal of “General George S. Patton.” Photos were taken after his presentation.
