Banquet in Salem
The Dine in or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building will be sponsored anonymously. The menu will include chicken sandwich, scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and cookies. Dine in will park in designated area behind the building and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. Copeland Oaks plant sale
The Friends of the Library at Copeland Oaks Retirement Community will hold a plant sale Thursday and Friday, April 30 and May 1 at the Beeghly Fountain to support the library. Plant sale hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plants available for purchase include annuals from River's Bend -- hanging baskets, pansy boxes, petunias, bubble gum petunias, succulents, Geraniums, Lantana, daisies, sweet potato vines, coleus and herbs. Copeland Oaks provides the space for the library and Friends of the Library provides some funds; however, this volunteer organization relies on the plant sale as its main source of operating income. WB Lady Ruritans
NORTH GEORGETOWN - The West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club met March 16 for its monthly meeting in North Georgetown.
The guest speaker was Lisa Gonzales of the Alliance Pregnancy Center. The center provides free support for mother, father and baby from early pregnancy through parenting skills classes. Upcoming events and expansion at the center were discussed and Gonzales brought informational pamphlets and baby bottles for fund raising. Each club member who wished to do so took a bottle to fill with loose change and will return them at the April meeting as well as baby items needed at the center.
The club's regular meeting was held after Gonzales spoke with the pledge of allegiance, the singing of "God Bless America" and Viola Blanchard giving a St. Patrick's Day themed devotion telling of the patron saint of Ireland and how the shamrock symbolizes the Holy Trinity.
Regular business was discussed and lunch was served by Jean Zion and Joann Pinkerton after the meeting adjourned.
The club's next meeting will be held Monday, April 20.
Lisbon kindergarten
LISBON -- McKinley Elementary School in Lisbon announced the opening of kindergarten and pre-K registration for the 2026-2027 school year, with registration for both available online at www.lisbon.k12.oh.us.
For kindergarten, parents/guardians of children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 24, 2026 must register online using the Lisbon schools website address already noted. Under Administration, click on Forms & Links, go down to the Links column to Final Forms (Parent Portal). On there, parents/guardians will create an account or sign into their existing account to register their child, asked to please make sure to fill out and sign all forms.
After completing the online registration, call McKinley Elementary at 330-424-9869 to set up an appointment to finish registration. For non-residents who wish to apply for Open Enrollment to the Lisbon Kindergarten, the child must be 5 years of age by the date set by their district of residence.
For Lisbon Preschool, the registration is also available online at the Lisbon schools website. Children must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2026 to enroll. With a limited number of spots available, four-year-olds will be considered first, with three-year-olds taking the remaining spots. Again, after completing the online registration, call McKinley Elementary at 330-424-9869 to set up an appointment to finish registration.
After enrolling children on Final Forms, parents/guardians must being their photo ID, the child's original birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency, and custody papers, if applicable. Please bring the immunization records to be copied even if there's an appointment for the required physical schedule. If the child receives the additional shots, please supply the school district with a copy of the new record.
Preschool registration requires proof of the parent's income and the child's Social Security card.
