CANFIELD – The Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (ESC of Eastern Ohio)’s Business Advisory Council (BAC) has received a Four-Star Rating from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW), recognizing its strong commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships between education and industry.

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce evaluates Business Advisory Councils across the state using a comprehensive framework that measures leadership, collaboration, work-based learning opportunities, career awareness initiatives, and alignment between K-12 education and workforce needs. A Four-Star Rating signifies a high level of effectiveness and a demonstrated impact on students, schools, and regional economic development.

The ESC of Eastern Ohio’s Business Advisory Council brings together educators, business leaders, and community stakeholders to strengthen career pathways and expand opportunities for students. Through strategic partnerships, the Council works to ensure that students are prepared for success in both postsecondary education and the workforce.

“This recognition reflects the strength of collaboration between our schools and regional industry partners,” said Sandy Furano, Director of Innovative Workforce Pathways and the Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments (MVRCOG). “The ESC of Eastern Ohio Business Advisory Council continues to create meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect students to in-demand careers and help build a sustainable workforce pipeline for our region.”

Board President Richard S. Scarsella also praised the Council’s achievement. “A Four-Star Rating from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is a significant accomplishment,” Scarsella said. “It demonstrates that the ESC of Eastern Ohio is not only meeting state expectations but exceeding them in building strong, sustainable partnerships that benefit students and our regional workforce.”

The Business Advisory Council supports initiatives such as career exploration events, industry presentations, internship and job shadowing opportunities, and collaboration on curriculum alignment to ensure that students gain relevant skills and knowledge aligned with workforce demands.
