Book signing

Columbiana County Seniors Book Club will sponsor a book signing with James Heathe, author of “The Mahoning Trumpet,” at 1 and 2 p.m., at the Seniors clubhouse, 145 S. Vine St., Columbiana. Heathe will be signing his novel, have books available, and talk about this and his future work.

Holy Humor Sunday

The New Lisbon Presbyterian Church (NLPC), 111 E. Chestnut St., Lisbon, will observe Bright Sunday, or Holy Humor Sunday, during its morning worship April 12 at 10:30 a.m. It is open to the public. The custom of Bright Sunday came from the early church theologians who felt that God had played a practical joke on the devil by raising Jesus from the dead. So the week after Easter, Christians observed “days of joy and laughter.”

“Last year was the first time, to our knowledge, that our church conducted a Bright Sunday service,” said Dr. Frank Lewis, NLPC stated supply pastor. “It had such a positive response, we’re planning a second service.

“We are not being irreverent; we’re simply expressing the joy of the miracle of resurrection and Easter Sunday. It is the Good News of our faith, after all. A happy laugh is like a prayer saying, ‘God is good!'”
