Mason Carney is the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center’s March Student of the Month.
Mason is a senior from Crestview High School and is enrolled in the Construction Technology (CT) Program under the instruction of Chris Schreffler.
Mason is a member of the SkillsUSA Chapter at the CCCTC. While a student at the CCCTC, Mason has earned his CITF Career Connection Certificate – Levels 1, 2, and 3 as well as his OSHA-10 certification.
Mason is already preparing for a future in the construction field by working at his family’s business, Buckeye Tech, where he started off as a general laborer cleaning and preparing job sites and assisting with basic tasks. He has since gained hands-on experience in the construction field and has begun completing low-voltage work and learned how to read plans, specifications, and blueprints. In addition, he worked a summer job at Wildcat Enterprises where he used his construction skills doing roofing, installing doors and windows, and completing interior and exterior trim work.
Mason plans to join the Carpenter’s Union upon graduation and continue to work for a signatory company while building his skills in the trade with an overall goal of being the best he can be at his job and continuing to improve his skills in the construction trades while taking pride in his work, produce quality results, and earn the respect of his coworkers and employer.
Mason stated “I chose the CCCTC because working in my family’s business sparked my interest in construction. The construction technology class gave me the chance to learn both commercial and residential construction and prepare for a career in the trade.”
Mason was nominated by Schreffler, who said, “Mason has a good work ethic. He always shows up with a good attitude ready to work. Mason always has done a great job in the lab. This will help him move to the next step in his career.”
Mason is the son of Travis and Dawn Carney.
