Kayak Krawl and Village Comes Alive set for this Saturday

EAST LIVERPOOL — Birdfish Brewing Company and the Friends of Beaver Creek State Park will be teaming up Saturday for the Kayak Krawl fundraiser that will support the creation of an all-accessible playground near the youth fishing pond in Beaver Creek State Park.

While tickets for the actual kayak trip have been sold out for some time, there will still be many events for visitors to enjoy between noon and 5 p.m. at Pioneer Village in the park. Birdfish Brewing will be serving their craft beers made with Yarian Quality Malts grown in Columbiana County in the barn in the village. Anyone purchasing beer must be 21 years old and have valid proof of age if it is requested. One hundred percent of the kayak registration fees and beer sales will be donated to the playground project. Kip’s taco food trailer will be set up near the barn. A portion of their proceeds for the day will also be donated for the construction of the playground. The Friends of Beaver Creek State Park have also contributed financially to the playground project.

There will be a free guided hike at 1 p.m. for all ages with no pre-registration required.

The kayak event is being held simultaneously with the first Village Comes Alive the Friends of Beaver Creek State Park hold the first Saturday of every month from May through October. The historic buildings supported by the group in Pioneer Village will all be open to the public to tour. Many of the buildings are manned by volunteers demonstrating blacksmithing, teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, hand quilting and many others. Gaston’s Mill will also be open and operating. Visitors can watch various grains being stone ground into corn meal and flour. The grain, as well as refreshments and many other items, are available for sale at the trading post in the village. Raffle tickets will also be available for the items raffled during Pioneer Day in October.

Rory McClellan SOLO Bluegrass Project will be providing live music from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
