West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club holds May meeting
NORTH GEORGETOWN – The West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club met May 18 at the North Georgetown Brethren Church. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance, the singing of “God Bless America” and a devotion read by Viola Blanchard. Secretary Joann Pinkerton read the minutes from the April meeting and Jean Zion gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved as read.
Vice President Bev Yaggi presented a 32-year membership pin to Viola Blanchard, a charter member of the club.
New correspondence and the Ruritan monthly newsletter were passed around. Members discussed an important point mentioned in the newsletter about reaching out to potential new members. Members need to be positive, invite them to a meeting or event, and explain that the club is here to help in the community. Club members volunteer as much time as possible to raise money and give it back locally. All club members vote on where donations are sent; each member’s vote counts.
Yaggi informed members that she called Abigail Benner to tell her she was awarded the annual scholarship. Abigail and her parents are invited to the club picnic July 20 when she will receive her check.
The meeting was adjourned; refreshments of sandwiches, chips and cookies were served by Yaggi.
