POLAND – Eighteen graduating high school seniors recently received scholarships from the Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Scholarship Foundation during a luncheon banquet in Poland.

The scholarships totaling $180,000 were given to seniors from Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The foundation was first established by Edward J. DeBartolo and several close friends, a release states, who worked to provide commendable youth with the opportunity to continue their education.

More than 350 applications were received by the foundation, which included grade transcripts, student essays and recommendations from guidance counselors and principals. In a release, the foundation stated that the award winners are determined by academic achievement, community involvement and financial need.

Local recipients include Gabriella Coletta of Salem High School and Allison Irwin of United High School.
