Southern Local students visit Salem AirPark

Southern Local Junior-Senior High School aviation students Daniel Peters and Aiden Galloway got to sit behind the controls of an aircraft while local pilot Rob Hovanec shared information during a visit by the school’s aviation students to the Salem AirPark. They and other students viewed many aircraft at the airport, interviewed local pilots about their experiences and observed a demonstration by Hovanec, also a Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy, of a drone used by the department. During a field trip to Salem AirPark, Emily Bowling’s aviation class at Southern Local Junior-Senior High School viewed about a dozen airplanes brought by local pilots and interviewed many about their flying experience. Mahoning County Sheriff’s Deputy Rob Hovanec also demonstrated the sheriff’s department’s drone while he and Columbiana County Commissioner Tim Weigle spoke about how drones are used in various daily operations.
