SALEM (WKBN) -- A television and movie actor is making his way to Salem this weekend for a powerful, one-night-only one-man show.

"The American Soldier" stars actor Douglas Taurel, who has starred in shows like "Chicago P.D." and "The Gabby Petito Story."

The show, which was nominated for the Amnesty International Award, is one Taurel has performed all over the country.

The actor also wrote the play based on letters from veterans and their families. The script came about through extensive research and countless interviews with veterans and their loved ones.

Taurel said he wrote "The American Soldier" to honor veterans and their families, and performing it is something he's very proud of.

"What's really amazing about the play is that it brings up stories of people that, they're like, you know, I remember when my dad served, or I remember, or my brother served, or I remember my grandfather serving and he wouldn't talk," Taurel said. "And so it brings up other stories that people have, and they've given back more to me than I could have ever given back to them."

"The American Soldier" is one night only on Saturday, July 25, at 7 p.m. at Salem High School, located at 1200 East Sixth Street in Salem. Tickets are $20, and they are available at eventbrite.com, or you can walk up and get them right at the door.
