Ruth Denmeade reaches century mark

Ruth Denmeade of Columbiana is turning 100 years old July 17, 2026.

She was born in Petersburg, Ohio and attended Springfield Township High School graduating in 1944. She went on to attend business classes at Youngstown College and worked at the Sheet & Tube until 1947.

It was in October of that year that she married George Denmeade of Struthers. After her youngest child entered school, she went to work for the post office in Petersburg, eventually becoming the postmaster.

Ruth and George had three children, Jan Rice, Georgie (Mike) Shane and Brian (Sandy) Denmeade. Her husband, George, passed away in November 1984 and she has missed him every day since. Ruth has been blessed with nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth was honored at a birthday luncheon July 12 at the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana, with 150 family and friends, some coming from as far as Florida, South Carolina, Maryland and Illinois, helping her celebrate the milestone.
