SALEM -- The Salem Community Theatre will celebrate a year of theatrical excellence with a new award ceremony Friday.
According to a press release, the Salem Community Theatre will host the inaugural edition of the "SCT Awards" to "celebrate a year of outstanding community theatre" and to "recognize outstanding performances and productions presented from July 2025 through June 2026."
The event will see awards presented in more than a dozen categories including: best lead actor and actress in a musical; best supporting actor and actress in a musical; best dancer; best lead actor and actress in a play, best supporting actor and actress in a play; outstanding featured performer; best comedic performance in a play or musical; best newcomer in a play or musical; brightest stage presence; best ensemble; best musical production; and best play production.
Audience members will also be invited to vote for their favorite production of the year, with the winner being named audience's choice for best show of the year.
In addition to the awards being presented, the evening will also feature encore performances from several production from the 2025-2026 theatre season, with awards set to be presented by "distinguished members of the local community." The evening will conclude with the reveal of the Salem Community Theatre's lineup for the 2026-2027 season "giving attendees the first look at the exciting year ahead."
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the theatre's website at a cost of $15 per person and proceeds from the event will support the theatre's ongoing capital campaign and efforts to ensure the Salem Community Theatre remains a hub for the performing arts in Salem for generations to come.
