Salem Public Library and Salem Community Theatre present program on American history

Outreach and Programming Assistant Sarah Carroll welcomes attendees to Friday’s event. She said that the Salem Public Library has been proud and excited to develop and offer a full slate of U.S. 250 programming, and that planning for the Voices of Freedom event began in November, and that the Salem Community Theatre had been collaborating on the project since December. Carroll thanked the attendees for their participation and encouraged them to reflect on the meaning and weight of the speeches presented throughout the evening, and their impact on American history.

The Salem Public Library and Salem Community Theatre came together Friday to present an immersive historical program which saw influential figures from American history portrayed by local thespians introduce themselves and their role in American history and deliver iconic speeches from their careers. Attendees were split into four groups which were led between stations by chaperones portraying Abigail Adams, Betsy Ross, Dolley Madison, and a suffragette. Each of the four stations featured three historical figures including: Susan B. Anthony portrayed by Melissa Kuttler, Ulysses S. grant portrayed by Dan Haueter, Alexander Hamilton portrayed by Carter Gbur, Jack the Breaker Boy portrayed by Brogan Kuttler, John F. Kennedy portrayed by Jason Capaldi, Abraham Lincoln portrayed by Mark Kholos, Mary the Mill Girl portrayed by Diane Capaldi, Sandra Day O’Connor portrayed by Christina Capaldi, Eleanor Roosevelt portrayed by Lynne Peterson, Theodore Roosevelt portrayed by Jacob Capaldi, Sojourner Truthe portrayed by Rosemarie Martinez, and Martha Washington portrayed by Maline Funes.
