Mile Branch Granch ham loaf dinner
Mile Branch Grange, 495 Knox School Road, Alliance, will hold a drive-thru ham loaf dinner from 5 p.m. until sold out Thursday, Aug. 13. The meal includes ham loaf, scalloped potatoes, green beans, cole slaw and brownie for $12. No preorders. All meals will be first-come, first-served.
MVHS program to feature Canfield Fair history
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will feature the history and legacy of the Canfield Fair from Fair Board Directors George Roman III and Elwood Woolman during its Bites and Bits of History at noon Thursday, Aug. 20, in the Tyler History Center's Thomas Ballroom, located at 325 W. Federal St. in downtown Youngstown.
From its roots in 1846 with the Mahoning County Agricultural Society, the Canfield Fair has grown into Ohio's largest county fair. Its inaugural first event was a one-day affair that took place on Oct. 5, 1847, and featured livestock tethered along Broad Street.
For generations, the Canfield Fair has been a beloved tradition that brings together families, friends, and neighbors from across the Mahoning Valley and beyond. The guest speakers will share the stories of the fair's history, memorable attractions,agricultural roots, favorite foods, and entertainment.
This year's fair takes place from Sept. 2 through 7.
