Dine In or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem
The Dine In or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building, sponsored by the Dermotta Family in memory of Britney Dermotta. The menu will include DiRusso sausage sandwich, augratin potatoes, carrots, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and peaches. Columbiana County Board of Revision meeting
Columbiana County Board of Revision will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Auditor's Conference Room, located on the first floor of the Columbiana County Court House. This meeting is to review and approve the value abstract. For information call 330-424-9515.
Columbiana SWCD's 84th Annual Meeting
The Columbiana SWCD will host its 84th annual meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at current board supervisor Bryan Hays and his family's farm for "America 250, Back on the Farm." This annual meeting will be held at Jan Paul Farms Inc.,7612 McCann Road, Kensington. The occasion will consist of a year in review by the staff, Cooperator of the Year award presentation, and time for socialization. Tickets for this event are $10 per meal for adults and $5 for children. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the meal commencing at 6 p.m. The dinner will be catered by High Hill Eatery from Carrollton with pies and desserts provided by Rachel Hays. Melissa Parker Smith and Don Burger will be supervisor candidates for election. Ballots will be available for voting at the beginning of the annual meeting. Voting at this event will run from 5 to 6 p.m. Individuals who own or occupy land within the Columbiana SWCD and are 18 years of age or older may vote for supervisor. United Local School District New Student Information
HANOVERTON -- United Local School District will have its first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for grades first through 12th. Kindergarteners will follow the schedule they were provided at kindergarten screening.
New student's who have recently moved into the district can register and enroll their student by going to our district website at https://unitedlocal-oh.finalforms.com/. Children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten. When register a child, parents must submit their child's birth certificate, immunization records, two proofs of residency and any custody documents, if applicable. All students are also required to have updated annual forms completed, at the start of the school year.
Forms are available on our district website at https://unitedlocal-oh.finalforms.com/. Note that new forms have been added since June, so be sure to log in and review/sign all of the student's forms.
Students will have the opportunity to sign their forms during the first week of school, but parents must complete and sign their portion first before students can sign.

West Branch Local Schools to host open houses Aug. 31
BELOIT -- As the new school year approaches, West Branch Local Schools invites West Branch Middle School and Early Learning Center families and students to attend open house events on Monday, Aug. 31.
"We're looking forward to welcoming students and families back for another school year," Superintendent Matthew Manley said. "Our staff has been working hard to prepare. Open house is a great chance for families to meet their child's teachers, see their classrooms and learn more about what's ahead. We encourage everyone to stop by, ask questions and start the year strong."

Pumpkin Growers Workshop to highlight On-Farm Disease and Pest Management
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, OSU Extension Specialty Crop Field Specialists will be at Catalpa Grove Farm to discuss disease, weed and pest prevention and management for growers in northeast Ohio.
The field day will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Catalpa Grove Farm, 41473 state Route 14, Columbiana, with CORE and private pesticide Category 3 credits available. Speakers Ashley Leach, OSU Vegetable Disease Specialist; Andres Sanabria-Valazquez, OSU Vegetable Pathologist; and Ram Yadav, OSU Specialty Crop Weed Science Specialist, will provide pest and disease updates, including trends seen throughout this and recent years' growing seasons, current control methods, and weed management systems and technologies.

Second half real estate taxes must be paid or postmarked by Sept. 18
YOUNGSTOWN -- Second half real estate taxes must be paid or postmarked by Sept. 18.
As has been previously reported, implementation of the changes resulting from the passage of House Bill 186 has caused delays in issuing tax bills and establishing due dates across the state.
"When this legislation was under consideration, County Treasurer's across Ohio warned the General Assembly that tax bill delays would be a likely result," said Mahoning County Treasurer Dan Yemma. "This has proven to be the case."
HB186 created an Inflation Cap Credit for qualifying property classifications. "The amount of the credit will vary for properties that qualify," added Yemma. "Taxes will remain more or less unchanged for properties that do not qualify."
To calculate the credit Ohio Department of Taxation created a one-time, mid-cycle adjustment to tax rates. Once the county received updated tax rates from the state, the software used to prepare and print bills had to be reprogrammed by the County Auditor's Data Processing Department. Data Processing has sent the data to the third party vendor that prepares, prints and sends out bills and we expect tax bills to begin mailing in the next few days.

Be aware that postmarks may not necessarily reflect the date payments are dropped in the mail, nor does the office have any control over the time it takes for the tax bill to be delivered once it is mailed. Taxpayers are encouraged to consider paying electronically, allow additional time for mailed payments, or request an in-person, hand-stamped postmark at the post office.
Abundant Life Fellowship to host annual car show
NEW WATERFORD - Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, will host its annual Classic Car Show from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 30 in its parking lot.
Registration will begin at 3 p.m. for the show, which is sponsored by The Belonging ministry for girls and women. All proceeds will go toward future Belonging events.
All makes and models of cars, trucks, motorcycles and dirt bikes are invited to participate. Trophies will be awarded in the following categories: Mayor's Choice; Pastors' Choice, Belonging Team Choice and Public Choice in first, second and third place, Public Choice for best truck and Public Choice for best motorcycle.
Dash plaques will be available for the first 50 entries.
A Chinese auction featuring a variety of gift baskets, gift cards and other items will be conducted as will a 50/50 raffle. Grill food including burgers, hot dogs, french fries along with nachos with cheese and salsa, desserts and beverages will all be available for purchase.

Free Idabelle Firestone Fall Concerts debut on Sunday at Firestone Park
COLUMBIANA -- The Free Idabelle Firestone Fall Concert Series begins Sunday, Aug. 30, at 3 p.m. at Firestone Park in Columbiana with the Oak Street String Band and Tapestries of Ohio taking center stage for the first concert of the series. Free admission and parking at main entrance of the park and shuttles will be available to take visitors to the Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Garden, the outdoor hilltop amphitheater where covered lawn seating will be available. The free concert series in the park will continue every Sunday at 3 p.m. through September. Rain or shine.
