WINONA - The Winona Ruritan Club met July 28 at the Winona Friends Church.
Vice-President Tom Richey called the meeting to order and he and Secretary Lee Stamp led the Club in the singing of "America." Homer Althouse gave the"Invocation."
The caterer served a meal consisting of tossed vegetable salad with choice of dressings, baked pork loin in gravy, mashed potatoes, dressing, corn, bread and butter, and beverage plus a peach dump cake.
Stamp called the roll of members, with 19 being present and seven absent. He then read the minutes of the June meeting and also the minutes of the July Board of Directors meeting. There were no changes or additions, and the minutes stood approved as read.
Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr. gave his June financial report. There were no questions regarding the report and it also stood as given.
The club had two members with birthdays in July: David Gilliss and Phil Winn. Only Gilliss was present and the club sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
Vice-President Tom Richey and Stamp told about their experience of participating in the "Salem 250th Grand Parade" on Friday, July 3, and passed around a photo of the float that displayed the club's 6-foot by 6-foot Winona Ruritan signs showing its 70 years of community service and also advertising its upcoming Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Stamp told the members that he had some silverware that was left at the steak fry last month, claim them if they are yours. Richey announced that the club needs someone or more to be on the nominating committee for 2027 officers and directors. There were no volunteers. Members were reminded that election of officers is in October.
Stamp told the members that the Ohio District Fall Convention is on Saturday, Nov. 14 in Smithville and all Ruritan members are welcome to attend. The Ohio District Spring Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, April 17, 2027.
After no other business was brought before the club, members changed the order of the agenda and will recited the Pledge of Allegiance before Althouse and Tom Sanor read the names and rung the honor bell of the club's 36 charter members that created the club 70 years ago. Members were very solemn during this presentation.
