Salem High School Class of 1959 gathering
The Salem High School Class of 1959 will celebrate the coming fall season by meeting at the home of Raymond Bricker, 12827 Goshen Road just north of Pine Lake Road on Saturday. Gathering will start at 1 p.m. with lunch to follow at 2 p.m. This year again will be a potluck lunch. Burgers, hot dogs, buns, water, plates, cups, napkins and tableware will be furnished. Classmates are asked to bring their favorite side or dessert.
Keep, Ka$h, or Trash: Antique, Family Heirloom, and Collectibles Evaluation
The Salem Public Library will host Keep, Ka$h, or Trash: Antique, Family Heirloom, and Collectibles Evaluation at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. Each registered participant may bring one item to be evaluated by an experienced, locally based individual working in the antiques and collectibles filed. It is free of cost and open to the public. In order to have an item evaluated, advanced registration is required and may be completed by accessing the event on Salem Public Library's website https://salem-lib-oh.libcal.com/event/16677418 or by calling the library's main number 330.332.0042. Registration is not required to attend the event to watch and enjoy the process.
Pistol Course Offered with Historical Perspective at Salem Hunting Club
The Salem Hunting Club will host a basic two-day pistol course from Revere's Riders Sept. 19 and 20. Revere's Riders is a 501C3 non-profit, affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program, National Rifle Association, and NV Firearms Coalition. With over a hundred volunteers across the nation who actively promote traditional marksmanship, American history, and civic engagement. Learn more at reversriders.org.
This course has no formal prerequisites but is a fast-paced program covering a lot of instructional points. The course is designed to instill marksmanship fundamentals into attendees who are at least familiar with the safe handling and operation of their pistol.
Participants will need a safe semi-automatic pistol with a minimum of two functioning magazines of 10 or more round capacity (more are recommended). Pistols should be of a modern, drop-safe design.
Cost for the event is $40 or $50 depending on eligibility.

DAHS Class of 1976 50th Class Reunion

Beaver Local Alumni Association Car Show
The Beaver Local Alumni Association will hold its annual car show Sept. 13 at the Beaver Local K-12 Campus, 46088 Bell School Road, Calcutta from noon to 4 p.m. The event will have trophies, dash plaques to the first 50 registered, basket auction, 50/50 food music and more. In the event of rain the car show will be held the following Sunday, Sept. 20.
Alliance's 3 Families Participating in Ohio Open Doors
ALLIANCE - Alliance's three major history groups, collectively known as The 3 Families, will take part in Ohio Open Doors Sunday.
The Alliance Historical Society, the Alliance Area Preservation Society, and the Castle Crusaders will have their respective buildings open for free self-guided tours from 1 to 4 p.m. as part of Ohio Open Doors events happening throughout the Buckeye State.
The history groups have taken on the name of 'The 3 Families" because each of their respective headquarters was built as a residence of a prominent family.
Alliance's Victorian gem, the Mabel Hartzell Historical Home is a beautifully restored 1867 home that offers visitors a glimpse into Alliance life during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Operated by the Alliance Historical Society, the Italianate-style landmark was built by Mary and Matthew Earley and later inherited by Alliance Historical Society founder Mabel Hartzell. The Haines House, Alliance's historic Underground Railroad site, is the oldest standing brick home in the city and one of the area's most significant links to the struggle for freedom. Built between 1827 and 1842 by John and Nancy Grant, it became an Underground Railroad station in the 1850s when owned by Ridgeway and Sarah Grant Haines. Today, the restored Haines House Underground Railroad Museum is owned by the Alliance Area Preservation Society. Located at 186 W. Market St., it offers visitors a glimpse into 19th-century life while telling the story of Alliance's important role in the Underground Railroad and the local fight against slavery. Alliance's magnificent marble mansion, Glamorgan Castle was built in 1904-1905 as the home of the family of Col. William Henry Morgan, the innovative industrialist who helped make Alliance an important center of engineering and manufacturing. A 28,000-square-foot architectural wonder, Glamorgan Castle was also the home of the Alliance Elks Lodge and headquarters of the Alliance Machine Company throughout its history. Until recently, it was the Alliance City Schools administration offices. Located at the intersection of Glamorgan Street and Union Avenue (200 Glamorgan St.), the Castle Crusaders are working to restore the Carnation City's treasured iconic structure to its former grandeur and repurposing it into an event and meeting destination. Guides will be at each site during the self-guided tours to answer questions.
On the day of the Ohio Open Doors tours, a Freedom Trail Walk will also be held. Starting at either Rodman Public Library (215 E. Broadway St.), or the Mabel Hartzell Historical Home (840 N. Park Ave.), participants will follow signs along the self-guided tour. The signs contain QR codes that will provide information through the Clio app on their phones. Guides will be along the trail to assist with questions and directions. Total distance one-way is about one mile. Participants may go as far as they want and return to their starting point.
