WINONA - The Winona Ruritan Club met Sept. 22 at the Winona Friends Church.
Vice President Tom Richey called the meeting to order and asked Secretary Lee Stamp to assist in leading the singing of "America."
Longtime Chaplain Homer Althouse recently fell and broke his pelvis and is in Auburn Nursing Home. Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr. gave the invocation. The caterer served a dinner of tossed salad, choice
of dressings, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread and butter and cheese cake, water, lemonade and coffee were available.
Stamp called the roll of members with 16 being present. He then read the minutes of the Sept. 15 board of directors meeting.
Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr. gave his detailed monthly report for August. There were no questions of his report. Vice President Tom Richey pointed out that everyone got a copy of the "TO DO" list for the upcoming pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the church.
Problems: Friends Youth leader scheduled a retreat for that weekend, don't know how many of their youth can help. The club also asked the Methodist church youth group to help, and they have a few lined up. The club is seeking gravy makers starting on Friday night to have some ready for Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
Richey said the club has 100 pounds of sausage (bulk) in the freezer at Hall Park to sell.
The club will hold a gun raffle for a Henry – Made in America – All Weather lever action Rifle in 45/70 cal., only selling 100 at $20 each. Drawing will be at the club's Oct. 27 meeting.
Stamp and Dean Sidwell took inventory and took a shopping list to Hull's Super Duper and also a request to Eichler Propane Gas.
The club still needs a president and two directors for 2027. Stamp would like to get the two big yellow signs put up this weekend, volunteers are needed. Tom Sanor volunteered himself and Sidwell.
None of the club's members born in September were present at the meeting.
Stamp reported Brittney Maniscalco and John Tonti of the Salem Community Foundation will attend the October meeting to tell about the club's investment.
Thom Ewing made a motion to donate $300 each to the Salem Salvation Army: Franklin Graham's Samaritan Purse and the Goshen-Butler Community Fund. Bruce Marhefka seconded and the motion passed.
The Nov. 17 meeting is the club's Veterans Recognition and the club will have Kenneth Hammontree coming to tell about the Auto and Rubber Industries involvement during WWII, so bring a veteran.
The club is seeking entertainment for the Dec. 15 Christmas dinner.
The club has received three out of four Thank You notes from the 4-H Youth that it sponsored trophies. The club also received a "Thank You" from Will McEver for his college scholarship.
Everyone rose and pledged Allegiance to the flag of the United States.
