Trinity United Methodist Church Rummage Sale
Trinity United Methodist Church, 2427 Columbiana Road, New Springfield, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, items will be half price, and from noon to 2 p.m. will be fill a bag for $1. From 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 17 everything will be free. West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club holds September meeting
The West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club met Sept. 21 in North Georgetown with Shirley Logsdon, Jean Zion, Robin Mayer and Joann Pinkerton attending.
Guest speaker was Heather Young, executive director of the Salem Community Center. The facility provides fitness, health and recreation activities serving Salem and surrounding communities offering swimming, an indoor sports complex, and many engaging activities for all. The regular meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of "God Bless America" and a devotion read by Zion about helping others when a need is noticed. It told of a person that noticed a neighbor struggling and left a bag of groceries to help and how grateful they were to receive the gift.
The previous meeting minutes were read by secretary Pinkerton with a correction noted in that Logsdon was in attendance and provided sandwiches, chips, fruit, and desert which we all enjoyed. Zion gave the treasurer's report. Old business and new business were discussed. Officer elections will be held at the October meeting.
Zion gave an update on member Mary Belle Metzgar's health saying she looks good and is doing okay.
Refreshments were provided by Zion and Pinkerton.
The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 19.
Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods: A Christmas Tradition That Keeps Growing
Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods celebrates its 32nd year at Shaker Woods in Columbiana, welcoming visitors from across the country. More than 230 quality craftspeople and artisans will gather Oct. 10-11 and 17-18.
Plenty of craftspeople are returning for the Christmas show. Traditional crafters include candle makers, leatherworkers, woodworkers and doll makers. Hand-thrown pottery and iron and stone work will also be available. Holiday craft items, decorations and handcrafted Christmas ornaments are featured at the festival, as well as holiday clothing, wreaths and floral arrangements.
Entertainment will include Echo Valley, Bailey Taylor, Ambridge Area High School Steel Band and Border Ride among others.
Hours for the festival are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, rain or shine. Daily general admission tickets will be on sale at the gate. General admission for adults is $12 per day. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. There's no additional charge for entertainment. Bus tours are welcome and group rates are available.

The festival has acres of free parking. No pets or comfort animals are permitted on festival grounds -- only service animals. Strollers are not recommended. The festival location is 44337 County Line Road (just off state Route 7), one mile north of the intersection of state Route 14.
OSU Extension Mahoning County Offers Hands-On Garden Art Workshop
Gardening enthusiasts are invited to get creative with OSU Extension Mahoning County during its Garden Art Series, a hands-on workshop led by the Mahoning County Master Gardeners.
The upcoming workshop will focus on creating a personalized garden apron, giving participants the opportunity to design and paint an apron they can take home and use in their own gardens. The practical apron includes a pocket for gardening tools while providing a fun way for participants to express their creativity.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own design ideas. All materials will be supplied, with a selection of stencils available to share.
The Garden Apron workshop will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the OSU Extension Mahoning County office, 490 S. Broad St.
The cost is $25 per participant, and payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. There are no refunds.

The Garden Art Series is designed to provide participants with creative, hands-on opportunities led by the Mahoning County Master Gardeners, with each project offering something participants can make and take home.
Historical Society's Trivia Night will be held Oct. 20 at Pancho's
There's still time to get a team signed up to test its knowledge in the Alliance Historical Society's Trivia Night.
The semiannual event will once again be held at Don Pancho's Tex-Mex Cafe on West State Street on Tuesday, Oct. 20, beginning at 6 p.m. To register go to alliancehistory.org/trivia-night.
As in the past, teams of four members each should register with a name, and the entry fee is just $120 per team which includes a taco bar (chicken, beef or vegetarian), soft drinks, chips & salsa, and a gratuity. A cash bar will be available.
The Alliance Historical Society has hosted a Trivia Night every October and March since October 2022 with four-person teams competing across multiple rounds of questions covering general knowledge, sports, entertainment, and local history.
During the Fall 2020 edition, there will be six rounds of 10 questions each.
Prizes will be given to the winning team. The evening also features basket raffles and 50-50 drawings, with all proceeds benefiting local history preservation.
Trivia Night and sponsorships help the Alliance Historical Society continue its work to preserve the history of Alliance and its maintenance of the Mabel Hartzell Historical Home and Alliance History Mini Museum.
Sponsors' names will be mentioned on the Historical Society's website and publicity for the event and sponsor's logo will be placed on the tables at the event. Gold sponsorships are $500, Silver sponsorships are $250, Table sponsorships $100, and $50 Question sponsors will have their name mentioned throughout the sponsored question round.
