Salem Federation of Women's Clubs to host Veterans Appreciation Dinner and Program

SALEM -- The Salem Federation of Women's Clubs will host a dinner and special program recognizing all veterans at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Salem Memorial Building-World War Memorial, 785 E. State St. Admission is free for veterans and $10 for guests.

The evening will feature John King of Ashtabula portraying Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln served as president from 1861 until his assassination in 1865, leading the nation through the Civil War and helping secure the abolition of slavery through the Thirteenth Amendment. His Gettysburg Address, delivered Nov. 19, 1863, remains one of the most famous speeches in American history.

The United Local High School Choir, under the direction of Sarah Pigza, will open the program with songs from the Civil War era, recalling the music that accompanied soldiers on their way to battle. Local acoustic guitarist Rick Stoffer will provide music during dinner.

Dinner will include baked chicken breast, dressing, roasted potatoes topped with gravy, buttered corn, bread and dessert.

Advance tickets or reservations are requested to help organizers plan the meal. Walk-ins will also be accepted. Tickets may be purchased, or attendance reserved, at the Salem Memorial Building, Salem VFW Post 892, Salem Computer Center, Simply Scarves and More, and Salem AMVETS.

The Columbiana Arts Theater to present 1776 - The Musical

COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Arts Theater will present 1776 - The Musical Nov. 12 through 15 at the historic theater located at 5 N. Main St. in downtown.

Directed by Mark Frost, this Tony Award-winning musical transports audiences to Philadelphia in the summer of 1776, where America's Founding Fathers face one of the most consequential decisions in history: whether to declare independence from Great Britain. Featuring iconic historical figures including John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson, 1776 takes audiences behind the scenes of the Continental Congress as delegates debate, disagree, compromise, and ultimately shape the future of a new nation.

As the United States commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, The Columbiana Arts Theater invites the community to experience a musical that captures the spirit of the nation's founding.
