Local hospitals receive rural healthcare funding

1 min read

Two local hospitals are receiving state funding for rural healthcare.

East Liverpool City Hospital and Salem Regional Medical Center are two of 22 rural hospitals receiving a one-time investment of $1,377,479 for quality-improvement projects.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), recently announced Rural Health Transformation Program awards totaling $92 million to manage chronic illnesses and expand access to preventive, primary, maternal, and behavioral healthcare in rural areas.

Local funding supports projects such as opening behavioral health units to support access to substance use disorder treatment and mental health services; adding on-site MRI services; adding or expanding diagnostic services in areas where current capacity is limited or patients are placed on waitlists. These investments allow rural hospitals to improve the quality of patient care and bring services to patients in their own communities.
