LEETONIA -- The Ohio State Trappers Association will hold its Region B Fall Meet on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Leetonia Sportsman Club, 311 E. High St. The free meeting begins at 9 a.m. and is open to the public.

This year's program features information on numerous fur-bearing animals. Opening up the day's events is Doug Lee who will discuss muskrats. Carl Cooper will present a program on coyotes at 10 a.m., followed by Jeff and Brian Briggs discussing raccoons and minks at 11 a.m. and Dustin Caudill speaking on beavers and otters at noon.

There will be a raffle and 50/50 drawing at 1 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring a potluck dish to share.

Individuals are invited to set up a table at the vendor fair which will feature a wide variety of trapping equipment for sale. Pre-registration is not required and tables are provided. Vendors can set up that morning.

The Ohio State Trappers Association is a non-profit whose purpose is to promote sound environmental programs, conservation, legislation and administrative acts. The organization promotes legal, safe and soundly managed harvest of fur and works to discourage and eliminate illegal processing of pelts.

Meeting Organizer Buddy Bricker said events like the regional fall meeting are excellent ways for state's trappers to learn valuable trapping skills and stay abreast of changes in legislation or laws. He encourages anyone who wants to learn more about how to get started trapping to attend, listen to the speakers and talk to members who have experience with trapping all species of fur-bearing animals.

"Our speakers have been trapping for years and have a lot of experience to share," Bricker said. "They'll talk about ways to get started, how to trap safely and ethically and how to sell pelts."
