SALEM

— Police were called at 1:02 p.m. Thursday to the 100 block of West Pershing Street for loud persons or a possible dispute. Officers found there were just a few people hanging out together. They were told to have fun, but to keep the noise down.

— A well-being check was requested at 12:52 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Walnut Street by a woman who could not reach her son. Police made contact and told him to call his mother.

— An open 911 line was reported at 12:16 p.m. Thursday, but the caretaker of the residence on Franklin said everything was fine.

— A cell phone memory card found in the city was turned over to police at 8:36 a.m. Thursday and given to the detective division to attempt to locate the owner.

— Police responded at 7:13 a.m. Thursday to Salem Regional Medical Center to the emergency department to assist Perry Township police with a male they had on an earlier call who was being combative while obtaining treatment. Police remained until the person calmed down.

— A suspicious person was reported at 1:12 a.m. Thursday in the 700 block of West State Street, but was not found.

— Loud music was reported at 12:10 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Jefferson Avenue, with the people told to turn it down.

— Tyler Rohr, 27, of West Wilson Street, was cited for expired registration after a traffic stop at 11:51 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Shell gas station on State Street. A search yielded no contraband.

— A caller at 7:07 p.m. Wednesday reported juveniles throwing bricks in the road in the 1200 block of Cleveland Street. Officers found several bricks in the eastbound lane with three juveniles running away from the roadside. The juveniles were 6 to 10 years old and took the bricks from the half wall at the Salem schools administration building. Some of the bricks had been loose, but no new damage was found. Officers talked to the juveniles about their actions and consequences. The juveniles picked up all the bricks and put them back on the wall where they belonged. Parents of the juveniles were contacted.

— Police responded at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard for a dispute between a juvenile female and the adult female who was asked to watch her while her mother was at work. The mother had told the adult female to take away the girl’s cell phone if she acted up, so she took the cell phone away and the girl started screaming. The juvenile was upset and told officers she wanted a family member to sit with her instead of the adult who also had her daughter with her. Police spoke to the mother and a family member responded for the juvenile.

— A man in the 1300 block of Franklin reported at 6:13 p.m. Wednesday that someone keeps throwing beer cans in his yard.

— A suspicious male was reported in the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. The male was located and told to return home and not leave again for the evening.

— An officer on patrol at 3:56 p.m. Wednesday saw a vehicle parked on East Fifth Street with the left side to the curb. A warning tag was placed on the vehicle for the violation.

— A woman in the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue reported fraud, saying she’s been talking to a person online who claimed to be in the military and convinced her to buy over $2,000 worth of gift cards and claimed he was going to pay her bills. She sent the cards overseas to the person before realizing it was a scam. A similar report had been filed in July.

— Police were called at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday for a drive-off from Smith Oil on East State Street. The vehicle was located and the driver returned to the business and paid.

— Police were requested at 12:33 p.m. Wednesday to check the well-being of a juvenile on Franklin Avenue. Officers spoke with the parent and observed the child. The report will be turned over to Children Services.

— Police responded to a civil matter in the 700 block of Southeast Boulevard at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday. A woman wanted to get her son’s belongings from the residence. She received the belongings and left.

— A caller at 10:09 a.m. Wednesday reported several people in a car smoking marijuana in the 800 block of East State Street. Police spoke to the occupants and found no evidence of marijuana use.

— Officers spoke with a woman at the police station at 9:39 a.m. Wednesday about an assault that allegedly happened Monday night in the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue. The incident was under investigation.

— The Salem Public Library director reported at 8:19 a.m. Wednesday that a window was broken at the library on East State Street overnight.

— Allen Vancooney, 23, of 922 S. Union Ave., was taken into custody at Salem Regional Medical Center at 6:51 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on an OVI first offense. He was turned over to a Columbiana County sheriff’s deputy.

Columbiana

— A customer at Das Dutch Haus reported at 1:57 p.m. Wednesday their vehicle was struck while they were inside the store.

— Police spoke with Dustin Chapman, Union Street, and Eric Chapman, Lisbon Street, following a verbal dispute on Union Street at 5:22 p.m. Wednesday. The two were separated for the evening.

— Linda Haefke, Columbiana, was cited for driving under pretrial suspension and red light following a traffic stop on North Elm Street at 11:11 a.m. Wednesday.

— Daniel Taylor, 50, Columbiana, was cited for failure to reinstate following a traffic stop on South Avenue at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday. He was also arrested on a warrant through the county sheriff’s office and turned over to the sheriff’s office.

— Reichard Industries reported theft of copper scrap from the building on Fairfield Avenue at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday.
