-- Brenda McFarland, 58, of Salem, was cited for failure to yield (stop sign) and marked lanes after a traffic stop at 3:54 a.m. Thursday on the U.S. Route 62/state Route 14 interchange. Police smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and conducted a probable cause search, finding an unknown brown-colored powder wrapped in a plastic bag. The powder will be sent to the lab for testing.
-- Police responded at 11:37 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a burglary in the 700 block of Bethel Drive. A woman said she woke up to a male in her bedroom. Due to video surveillance around the residence, a visual of the male and the vehicle he was driving were taken and the family recognized the male. Police spoke with him at his residence inside the city and he said he was inside the residence earlier in the night. Robert E. Chester, 48, of Salem, was placed into custody for burglary and taken to the Columbiana County jail.
-- An officer came across an accident on Egypt Road near Main Street in Goshen Township's jurisdiction Wednesday, remaining on scene until Goshen Township arrived.
-- A couch was reported in the road in the 1500 block of Egypt Road at 4:42 p.m. Wednesday. Police found the couch safely off the road. A message was left for the township road department to remove the couch.
-- Police responded at 4:11 p.m. Wednesday to the 1100 block of Elberon Avenue for a reported custody dispute. Police spoke to both parties and advised them it's a civil issue and to speak to their attorneys.
-- Police were asked by Salem units at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday to be on the lookout for a possible rolling domestic in a gray Honda believed to be heading west on U.S. Route 62 towards Alliance. The vehicle was not seen.
SALEM
-- Amanda Payne, 18, of North Ellsworth Avenue, was cited for no operator's license and fictitious license plates after a traffic stop at 12:25 a.m. Thursday for an equipment violation at North Ellsworth and East Third. The owner of the vehicle responded to drive it home. They were asked to leave the vehicle parked until a valid license plate was issued.
-- Robert E. Chester, 48, of 124 1/2 E. Wilson St., was cited for possession of marijuana, a minor misdemeanor, after officers were dispatched to his residence at 12:06 a.m. Thursday to assist Perry Township police on a follow-up investigation. Officers were greeted by the suspect and invited inside the residence. While talking with him, officers noticed two small bags containing marijuana laying on a table. Officers gathered the contraband and issued the citation. Chester was charged by Perry Township with burglary for an incident in the township.
-- A parking ticket was issued on a vehicle observed parked with the left side to the curb in the 1200 block of Cedar Ridge at 11:01 p.m. Wednesday.
-- Police were called at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of East Third Street for criminal damaging. A woman said her ex-boyfriend grabbed her cell phone and threw it on the ground during an argument, causing damage. The suspect denied the allegation. Information will be sent to the prosecutor's office to review for possible charges.
-- Police responded at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday to the 200 block of West Pershing Street for a parking complaint. A resident complained about a truck parked in the alley behind his residence with a long, rolled up object hanging out of the truck bed. He said he almost struck the object while traveling through the alley. Officers made contact with the owner and the truck was moved.
-- A man reported at 5:43 p.m. Wednesday that his vehicle was damaged on Franklin. Officers gathered information.
-- During a traffic stop in the 1400 block of East Third Street for an equipment violation at 5:18 p.m. Wednesday, the driver said she was having stomach pains and a panic attack and driving herself to the hospital. She did not have a valid driver's license. Fire department first responders and KLG responded and she was transported to the hospital for treatment. Her vehicle was legally parked on the street. The officer responded to the hospital and cited her for driving under suspension. Her name was not listed on the report.
-- A caller at 4:04 p.m. Wednesday reported a silver Monte Carlo being driven recklessly. The vehicle was found and followed on North Ellsworth Avenue, but no violations were seen.
-- A domestic dispute was reported at 2:06 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. A man said his wife arrived at his place of employment and started yelling at him. When this happened, he walked away and continued to go back to work. Officers were unable to make contact with his wife at her residence.
-- A man reported at 12:51 p.m. Wednesday that he used to live with his father in an apartment in the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue and asked him for his mail and was told if there was any, it would be in the mailbox, but there wasn't any in the mailbox. He said he had problems before with the landlord and thinks he took the mail. He was told to check with the post office and the landlord about the mail to see if it was being forwarded to his new address.
-- Police were called at 11:52 a.m. Wednesday to the 1900 block of East State Street to check for a patient that left the hospital prior to discharge. The hospital personnel did not require the person to be brought back, but were making police aware out of concern for the person's well-being. Contact was made with a family member who was speaking with the person on the phone and confirmed he was fine.
-- Heidi Hostetter, 38, of 508 Continental Drive, was taken into custody at her residence at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for contempt of court. She was turned over to a Columbiana County sheriff's deputy.
-- Police were called at 8:26 a.m. Wednesday to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue for a man possibly passed out in the driver's seat of a red Jeep SUV. Police located the vehicle in the 100 block of Railroad Street and made contact with the owner who said he was waiting for a nearby business to open. There were no signs of impairment and he did not need any assistance.
-- Police conducted a traffic stop for a registration violation at 7:13 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of South Howard. The owner gave consent for a search and was given a warning for the violation.
LEETONIA
-- A Coal Alley resident reported at 2:27 a.m. Wednesday that he had been in a verbal argument with his girlfriend, Morgan N. Piccini, 19, of the home, and she left about half an hour prior to the complaint. An officer located Piccini driving in the area of Main and Chestnut streets. She was cited for expired registration and agreed to return home.
-- An officer responded to the Coal Alley area at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a vehicular crash involving a village backhoe in which the other driver had fled the scene. An officer spoke with the suspect at 5:47 p.m. and found that she was the driver of the vehicle that fled the scene. The officer gathered her license and insurance information.
COLUMBIANA
-- Brian Byo, 48, Struthers, was cited for driving under suspension following a traffic stop on North Middle Street at 12:22 p.m. Wednesday. A passenger, Joseph Spragan, 41, Campbell, was cited for possession of marijuana.
-- Joseph M. McLaughlin Jr., 37, Columbiana, was warned for disorderly conduct following a road rage incident in the traffic circle at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday.
NEW WATERFORD
-- At 10:09 a.m. Dec. 28, officers responded to the 3200 block of Creek Road for a welfare check on a female individual but had negative contact with the subject.
-- At approximately 2:08 p.m. Dec. 28, officers responded to the 46000 block of South State Street for a semi-truck driver that had backed into a fence and damaged it.
-- At approximately 3:24 p.m. Dec. 28, officers responded to the 3800 block of Boardman Street for a domestic violence complaint and arrested 35-year old Anthony Lopshansky for domestic violence and he was transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
-- Officers responded to the area of North State Street for a complaint of a possible intoxicated driver at approximately 6:12 p.m. on Dec. 28. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
-- Officers responded to the 3200 block of Creek Road for a welfare check at approximately 9:32 p.m. Dec. 28. Officers checked the residence and found everything to be OK.
-- At approximately 8:22 a.m. Dec. 29, officers responded to the 200 block of Glenwood Avenue in East Palestine to assist the East Palestine Police Department with a domestic dispute complaint.
-- Officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Pinewood Drive for a welfare check at 4:01 p.m. Dec. 31. Contact was made by phone and the person was requested to contact the family member.
