-- Firefighters were called at 12:50 p.m. Thursday to Church Budget, 271 S. Ellsworth Ave.. for a fire alarm, finding water from the sprinkler system coming from a drain. Firefighters entered the building and didn't find any issues. Employees arrived and reset the system.
-- A vehicle fire was reported at 11:16 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Salem Community Center , 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave., with the engine compartment fully involved when firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire. The driver, who was from Maryland, said she had the drive belt and water pump replaced a week and a half ago in Maryland and arrived in Salem on Tuesday with no other recent issues. The vehicle was a 2007 Honda CR-V.
-- Firefighters were called at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday to Quaker City Castings, off of South Broadway and Euclid, for a reported structure fire, but found flames coming from three furnaces inside the building that the keyholder said were part of the normal operation. No employees had been present at the time, with the incident turned over to the inspection bureau within the fire department. The police report said the equipment had been left up and running.
