SALEM

­-- Police responded at 8:49 a.m. Friday to the 1000 block of East State Street to a dispute over an accidental ding created when one subject opened a vehicle door into another.

­-- A male subject reported at 10:44 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of South Broadway Avenue that he received a call alleging that a government agency was going to be charging him for crimes n the state of Texas and that money cards from Walmart could prevent his arrest. After hanging up on the subject, he received another call allegedly from the Salem Police Department from a male with a foreign voice advising him of the arrest warrant. The officer advised him it was a scam.

­-- Criminal damage was reported to a motor vehicle shortly before 10:45 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of Homewood Avenue, where someone slashed two tires on one car and slashed all four tires and keyed the side and trunk on a second vehicle.

­-- A juvenile dispute between a 9-year-old male and 10-year-old female was reported at 3:57 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Wilson Street.

­-- An officer responded at 4:02 pm. Friday to the 800 block of South Lundy Avenue for a verbal dispute as one subject was moving out. He had to return a half hour later when they disagreed about who gets the TV. An agreement was reached before the officer's arrival back.

­-- An unnamed subject was detained at 4:40 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of East State Street under suspicion of shoplifiting three 24-oz. cans of alcoholic beverage without rendering payment. He "was trespassed" from the store and the matter remains under investigation.

­-- A bicycle was recovered at 5:51 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of South Lundy Avenue and placed in the police department's lost and found.

­-- K9 Argo was deployed for open air sniff on vehicles at traffic stops with positive indications, items confiscated and warnings given to unnamed drivers at 4:15 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of West State Street, at 8:24 p.m. Friday in the area of East Pershing Street and South Ellsworth; at 6:57 p.m. Saturday in the area of Newgarden Avenue and Mullins Street; and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Jennings Avenue near Fifth Street. Nothing illegal was found for a consent search of a vehicle involved in a traffic stop at 8:28 p.m. Saturday on West State Street near the bypass.

­-- Animal neglect complaints were investigated at 10:54 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of East Fifth Street and at 6:33 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of North Howard Street. An additional complaint was received regarding a neighbor's dog that was stuck under her steps in the 300 block of East Fourth Street at 6:15 a.m. Friday, which was retrieved by the owner.

­-- A complainant in the 900 block of North Union Avenue reported at 9:28 a.m. Saturday that someone had opened an unemployment claim under her name despite her still working at the company. She filed a report, so no benefits would be issued.

­-- Two reports are made regarding electric scammers circulating in the 1400 Blok of South Lincoln Avenue Saturday morning. According to the first complainant, who filed her report at 10:53 a.m. two males allegedly from IDT Energy came to her apartment and asked to see her electric bill, as they said that they could save her money. She said that she signed one of their phones before having second thoughts about whether it was a scam. A second complainant reported at 1:08 a.m. that reported that she also had a male from an electric company come to her door and she granted him entry to pull up one of her electric bills on her computer. Both were advised that if this happens again to contact police in the future.

­-- An anonymous caller reported at 3:39 p.m. Friday a dog running at large in the area of Cleveland Street and Hawley Avenue. Police retrieved said dog and returned it to the owner.

NEW WATERFORD

­-- A male resident of the 3600 block of Silliman Street reported at 3:12 p.m Friday a case of telecommunications harassment. The report will be sent to the Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office for review.

­-- Two subjects reported at 3:17 p.m. Feb. 1 in the 46000 block of Hatcher Road that they have not been on unemployment but received paperwork from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, showing they received compensation of $1,440 in both of their names on separate claims. The case has been forwarded to the Ohio State Highway Patrol for investigation.

­-- A female in the 3600 block of Spruce Street reported that a male had violated a protection order but left, so she didn't want an officer to respond.
