2 Salem residents held on endangering charges

1 min read

SALEM -- Two Salem residents whose child suffered injuries in September were taken into custody on separate warrants Tuesday afternoon.

Sean Hicks, 26, of 189 E. Third St., was arrested on a warrant for felonious assault and endangering children after officers located him at his residence, with K-9 Simon assisting.

Chasity Buckius, 24, of the same address, was taken into custody in the 800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on a warrant for endangering children.

Salem Police Detective Dave Talbert said the charges stem from an investigation into injuries suffered by their 5-month-old child, who was taken to Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman on Sept. 7, 2020 and then transferred to Akron Children's Hospital in Akron with injuries "classified as non-accidental trauma."

The child was hospitalized for 15 days and placed with a family member, along with a sibling who was checked out and had no injuries.

Talbert said the 5-month-old child and the sibling were both taken to the hospital by the mother, Buckius, and the maternal grandmother.

The indictments were issued by the grand jury in April.
