LISBON -- In county Municipal Court, An April 19 preliminary hearing and pretrial was set for Michael S. Smith, 39, McCracken Road, Salem, charged with domestic violence and resisting arrest. On Friday, Smith allegedly threatened his live-in girlfriend, Grace Roessler, telling her he was going to beat her to death, slit her throat and burn the house down. Then when deputies arrived, Smith allegedly was holding a butane torch and kicked deputies attempting to take him into custody.
Amberlina N. Gentsy, 26, Monaca, Pa., was bound over to the grand jury on charges of felonious assault, failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, OVI first offense, left of center and marked lanes. Gentsy is accused of going left of center, nearly striking other drivers head-on and nearly going off the road, while fleeing from officers on April 3. She then allegedly struck the back of a deputy's cruiser when it slowed in front of her at the intersection of state Route 154 and 45.
An April 22 pretrial was set for Gavin Linden, 19, Crestview Road, Leetonia, charged with criminal mischief, carrying a concealed weapon and aggravated menacing. On Friday, Linden allegedly pointed a handgun at a vehicle for about eight seconds while it was northbound on state Route 164 with Zackery Cox and Morgan Little inside of it. When police found him, he reportedly had a 9-mm handgun in his waistband with a round in the chamber. The criminal mischief charge was for kicking the partition, side door and windows in a Columbiana police cruiser and spitting on the window.
Sarah E. Drye, 33, Kelly Park Road, Columbiana, was bound over to the grand jury on a charge of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, for allegedly hiding a paper fold of suspected narcotics in her bra on April 3 to hide it from Salem police.
Thomas M. Barrett, 65, Tanglewood Drive, Salem, was bound over to the grand jury on three counts of violating a temporary protection order charge for allegedly sending his ex-wife, Cynthia Barrett, a letter on Jan. 26, Jan. 8 and Dec. 12.
An April 19 pretrial was set for Lance J. Steffel, 66, East Main Street, Washingtonville, charged with OVI fourth offense, OVI refusal with prior within 20 years and driving under suspension.
Jerry L. Malone II, 40, West Fifth Street, Salem, was credited with two days served, sentenced to an additional eight days in jail and fined $300 for two counts of theft for hiding $31 worth of tobacco from Cheap Tobacco under his shirt and leaving the store on Sept. 26, 2016, as well as trying to return a stolen $50 beef loin at the Salem Walmart on Sept. 18, 2016, then when they refused him a cash refund, sticking his hand twice into a container of donations for Akron Children's Hospital removing cash each time.
James Sherrer, 32, New Brighton, Pa., was fined $500, credited with three days served in jail and required 30 hours community service for telecommunication harassment and disorderly conduct for texting Kayla Poole, threatening to kill her and telling her he was on his way to her house in East Palestine on March 15, 2020.
A May 25 pretrial was set for David M. Liptay, 20, state Route 14, Columbiana, charged with driving under suspension and falsification, for allegedly reporting his vehicle stolen on March 19, then finding it himself across the street all the while denying he drove it over there and forgot.
Klarysa Renee Green, 24, West Perry Street, Salem, was credited with a day in jail, sentenced to nine remaining days in jail, fined $300 and required 40 hours community service for obstructing official business, drug abuse instrument and drug paraphernalia for attempting to walk away from a traffic stop while police were involved in a physical altercation with the driver and having a meth pipe, digital scale with residue and several hypodermic needles in her purse.
Matthew Mason, 39, Midland, Pa., was fined $1,350, had his license suspended for a year, sentenced to 10 days in jail and required 60 hours community service for improper passing and OVI second offense amended from a third offense.
An April 19 pretrial was set for Michael C. Riley, 41, East Euclid Avenue, Salem, charged with domestic violence for shoving Gloria S. Gocher to the ground. A May 13 pretrial was set for Gocher, 49, also of East Euclid Avenue, Salem, charged with domestic violence for allegedly shoving Riley to the ground and smacking him in the face.
Disorderly conduct dismissed against Milton Donald Cook, 73, Glenn Road, Lisbon. Cook had been accused of getting into a fight outside a Madison Township trustees meeting in February after accusing Gary Mitchell, a township employee, of running him off the road in a plow truck. Mitchell, 60, state Route 45, Wellsville, paid a $150 fine for disorderly conduct at the time of the fight.
Randy P. Witherow, 53, Hanover Road, Salineville, was sentenced to 10 days in jail, fined $500, had his license suspended for 180 days and required 40 hours community service for driving under OVI suspension.
A May 6 pretrial was set for Diego B. Gonzalez, 32, Pioneer Road, Negley, charged with resisting arrest and obstructing official business for refusing to give Salem police his name and failed to comply with orders to stop.
Jorge V. Cruz, 32, Akron, was fined $350 and required 20 hours community service for driving under suspension and speeding.
Barbara J. Cox, 48, Bacon Avenue, East Palestine, was fined $350 for driving under suspension.
Terry E. McCombs, 67, Foundry Hill Road, Hanoverton, was fined $330 and had his license suspended for a year for failure to control, a seat belt violation and reckless operation amended from OVI.
Gerald V. Cline, 62, was fined $250 for refuse disposal prohibited for leaving two plastic drink bottles at the Highlandtown Lake Wildlife Area.
Degnan Landry Diarra, 27, Mayfield Heights, was fined $250 for speeding.
Brian J. Hamilton, 41, Industry, Pa., was fined $250 and required 40 hours community service for disorderly conduct amended from domestic violence for grabbing Kristi Hamilton with both arms around her waist and pulling while she was holding onto a stairway railing, hurting her shoulder on Feb. 18.
A May 24 pretrial was set for Patrick W. White, 54, Pennsylvania Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with criminal trespassing for allegedly going into a home he had rented on Union Street in Columbiana on Oct. 12 when he had been ordered to vacate by Oct. 10.
Timothy J. O'Neil Jr., 24, Dyke Road, Rogers, was fined $100 for disorderly conduct amended from assault for punching a 15-year-old girl in the cheek twice on Feb. 18.
Anna Finocchi, 19, Canfield, was fined $150 for disorderly conduct amended from underage consumption.
William A. Carpenter, 19, Aurora Road NE, East Rochester, was fined $150 for speeding.
A failure to reinstate a license citation against Jeffrey L. Arter, 63, North Market Street, Lisbon, was dismissed.
