-- A woman reported at 4:51 a.m. Sunday she was told her bicycle was at a residence in the city where she had problems earlier in the evening. The bicycle was reportedly taken without permission. Due to recent problems, officers responded and retrieved the bicycle. They attempted to contact the residents, but no one answered the door. The bicycle was returned to the owner.
-- A man reported at 2:17 a.m. Sunday his wallet was stolen at a local bar. Officers checked the area and spoke with the employee but could not find the wallet. The man was told to cancel any cards.
-- Joshua A. Ortiz, 26, Conroe, Texas, was charged with carrying concealed weapons, a third-degree felony, after officers responded to a South Broadway Avenue business at 1:41 a.m. Sunday in reference to someone with a gun consuming alcohol following an altercation.
-- Officers responded to the 400 block of Ohio Avenue at 12:37 a.m. Sunday in reference to fight in which a resident reported two men and woman she knows had shown up at her home wanting to fight, then fled the area when she got into a physical altercation with one of the men. Officers spoke with the other people involved who said they showed up at the home because the complainant's boyfriend wanted to fight. The complainant denied the allegation and said her boyfriend was not at the home. Due to the conflicting stories and no one wanting to pursue the matter, no charges were filed.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of Fair Avenue at 9:29 p.m. Saturday to check on a resident after a neighbor reported smelling smoke and being unable to contact a downstairs neighbor. Officers also smelled smoke but were unable to make contact the neighbor. Officers entered through the kitchen and called out to the neighbor who eventually emerged from a room on the west side of the residence and said everything was fine.
-- An officer responded to the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and East Fourth Street at 1:44 p.m. Saturday in reference to a possible water line break. The officer located a small break in the 100 block of East Fourth Street and notified the water department.
-- An officer responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 1:40 p.m. Saturday in reference to someone trespassing a condemned home. The individual was identified as a previous resident who was gathering some belongings left behind. He was told to make an appointment with the housing department before entering the home.
-- An officer checked on a complaint of a fixed wing aircraft flying extremely low over a northern area of the city at 12:29 p.m. Saturday in the area of Shady Lane and Orchard Bend Drive and found it was a licensed crop duster operating from a nearby airfield. Representatives said they normally notify local law enforcement when they are working but had forgotten to do so this time.
-- An officer responded to the 800 block of Highland Avenue at 12:02 p.m. Saturday where a caller had used 911 to request beverage delivery to the home. The officer spoke with the caller and advised of possible criminal consequences for further misuse of emergency lines.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 11:58 a.m. Saturday where a resident reported a trash can had been stolen overnight.
-- Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 11:09 a.m. Saturday in reference to individuals in a gray SUV with out of state plates attempting to sell imitation gold in a business parking lot. Officers checked the area but were unable to find the vehicle in question.
-- Police responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Fifth Street at 10:27 a.m. Saturday in reference to a man directing traffic. Officers found the known man standing on the side of the roadway giving hand signals to vehicles. Officers advised him of the complaint and sent him on his way.
-- An officer observed a known man in the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Fourth Street at 10:34 a.m. Saturday who appeared to be getting angry and starting to talk and yell at himself. The man was given a disorderly conduct warning and told to go home and calm down.
-- Officers responded with the police department to the 2000 block of Monroe Street at 9:18 a.m. Saturday in reference to a burning odor and a fire alarm that had briefly gone off. The odor was found to have resulted from a newly activated heater and everything was okay.
-- Heather Haueter, no age or address listed, was cited for dog at large after officers responded to the 700 block of Franklin Avenue at 6:49 a.m. Saturday to speak with someone who had been injured by a dog. The person who was bit was checked by medical personnel and released.
-- Officers responded to the 1200 block of Cedar Ridge Drive at 5:30 a.m. Saturday to check on a resident. The resident said she was having some issues and not feeling well. She was ultimately transported to the Salem hospital.
-- Ariel L. Durham, 33, East Eighth Street, Salem, was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing official business after officers responded to a South Broadway Avenue business at 1:29 a.m. Saturday where staff members wanted her removed due to her behavior. She was found to be highly intoxicated and would not cooperate with officers.
-- Preston S. Beagle, no age listed, Continental Drive, Salem, was cited for driving under suspension and unattended motor vehicle following a two-vehicle crash in the 300 block of Rea Drive at 11:32 p.m. Friday after failing to put a vehicle in park in a driveway and it rolled back into a legally parked vehicle across the street. Beagle was found to have allegedly stolen the vehicle after officers released him to a licensed driver. He was located walking near his apartment and resisted arrest, getting tased twice. He was transported to the Salem hospital for treatment then to the Columbiana County Jail on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. The vehicle was released back to the owner.
-- Officers responded to a 200 block Vine Street home at 11:19 p.m. Friday in reference to a woman to be removed. The woman agreed to leave for the night, gathered her belongings and left.
-- Officers responded to a 500 block East Pershing Street business at 9:25 p.m. Friday in reference to two juveniles with a knife and brass knuckles. The brass knuckles were found in the trash can and confiscated. The matter was forwarded to the juvenile officer.
-- An officer responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 7:32 p.m. Friday where someone reported her tire had been slashed during her work shift, possibly by her ex-girlfriend. The matter is under investigation.
-- An officer responded to the railroad tracks in the 800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at 5:31 p.m. Friday in reference to juveniles on the tracks. The officer spoke with the juveniles on the roadway near the bus garage. They admitted to walking around in the woods and crossing over the tracks, but denied putting anything on the tracks. They were told to stay off the tracks and find another way to travel.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 4:35 p.m. Friday in reference to criminal damaging, but found instead a vehicle with its passenger window lowered. The complainant said nothing appeared to have been taken, but agreed to call the station is she notices anything missing.
-- Samantha A. Adams, 38, Ohio Avenue, Salem, was cited for assured clear distance ahead following a two-vehicle crash in the 1900 block of East State Street at 3:55 p.m. Friday in which she was westbound and struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Shirley L. Penezich, 53, Salem, who was stopped at Roosevelt Avenue. No injuries were reported.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 3:43 p.m. Friday in reference to two people fighting in which both admitted one of them struck the other in face after being grabbed. Neither one wanted to pursue the issue and were told to separate for the evening.
-- An officer responded to the 700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:20 p.m. Friday where a resident reported two people approached his wife on the property asking about a room for rent at their house. The resident said their house is listed on a website as having a room for rent, but that they made no such advertisement.
-- Officers were made aware of an alleged sex offense while investigating another sex offense at 1:58 p.m. Friday. The allegation is between an adult man and a male juvenile. The matter was forwarded to the court for a review of charges.
-- An officer responded to the 300 block of South Union Avenue at 12:08 p.m. Friday in reference to two suspicious persons behind a residence. The officer spoke with the individuals who were identified as visitors at the residence next door, which shares the same driveway.
-- Officers responded to a bank in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:30 a.m. Friday in reference to someone to be removed. Officers spoke with the person in question who was told not to return and left without issue.
-- An officer responded to the 600 block of Olive Street at 10:25 a.m. Friday in reference to several individuals loitering on the property of a condemned residence. The officer found two individuals on the street in front of the condemned residence. They were told to stay away from the home.
-- Police responded to the 600 block of East Second Street at 8:35 a.m. Friday in reference to a man attempting to enter a closed business. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the man known to them who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. Medical personnel arrived and the man attempted to walk away. He was detained and while being placed in the back of a cruiser, he kicked two officers and made multiple threats. He then spit on medical personnel and continued to make threats while being loaded into an ambulance. He was ultimately transported to the Salem hospital for evaluation. Charges are pending upon the man's release from medical care.
