Salem
— Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Continental Drive at 3:19 a.m. Friday for a report of a 911 hang-up call. Contact was made at the residence and the call was found to be accidental.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of East State Street at 1:35 a.m. Friday for a report of a suspicious person. Contact was made with a person sitting on a bench, who was advised of the complaint. He said he was just using the Wi-Fi trying to make a call for a ride.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Rose Avenue at 12:43 a.m. Friday for a report of a noise complaint. Officers spoke with the resident in question and advised them to keep it down for the night.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:13 p.m. Thursday for a hit and skip. The accident was observed by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper who followed the vehicle and stopped it in the center of town. Jose Alferez, 54, Salem, was travelling north on South Lincoln Avenue when his vehicle went left of center, striking a vehicle driven south by Anthony Seddon, causing minor damage as both driver side mirrors struck each other. Alferez was cited for left of center and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle.
— Officers observed a 5-year-old girl wandering into the roadway from her residence in the 100 block of West Pershing Street at 7:28 p.m. Thursday. Contact was made with the father who took care of the issue.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 7:01 p.m. Thursday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in taking a man into custody for soliciting prostitution. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police department for processing before being transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers on patrol in the area of South Union Avenue and Oak Street at 6:10 p.m. Thursday observed a man known to them to have an outstanding warrant out of Alliance. Officers confirmed the warrant and contacted the man, Kevin Curtis, 29, Salem, taking him into custody without incident. While conducting a search of Curtis he admitted to having narcotics on his person along with paraphernalia. The narcotics and paraphernalia were turned over to a Drug Enforcement Task Force agent on scene. Curtis was transported to Damascus where he was turned over to Alliance police.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Perry Street at 5:11 p.m. Thursday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Dispatch had tried to call the number back but nobody answered. Officers made contact with the resident and confirmed all was okay. It was believed a child at the residence had accidentally called.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Franklin Avenue at 5:01 p.m. Thursday for a report of a possible breaking and entering. Officers observed shoe print marks on the back door. Photos were taken and the home owner was advised.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 4:49 p.m. Thursday to advise that she had obtained a protection order from Mahoning County due to issues with her ex that has been texting her and harassing her throughout the day. She advised that he was not served at that time, but she wanted the incident documented in case the problems continued.
— Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of South Ellsworth Avenue and Mullins Street at 3:29 p.m. Thursday for an equipment violation. K-9 Simon was deployed and did indicate the odor of narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted and contraband was recovered. All contraband was turned over the Drug Enforcement Task Force. The driver was given a warning for the violation.
— Officers responded to the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and East Fifth Street at 2:20 p.m. Thursday for a report of small children playing near the roadway. Officers checked the area but they had apparently gone back inside.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 11:35 a.m. Thursday for a 911 hang-up call. Officers made contact with a man and woman who said they did not call. They advised everything was fine and nothing was needed. Officers checked both floors of the apartment building and heard no disturbance. Dispatch tried calling the number back several times but there was no answer.
