LISBON -- A Lisbon man who struck a North Market Street resident with a sword after trespassing in the occupied residence on June 4 was one of 36 defendants openly indicted by the Columbiana County Grand Jury this week.

Jay Bauer, 36, North Market Street, was indicted for second-degree felonies of felonious assault and burglary and two first-degree felony counts of aggravated burglary. According to the indictment, Bauer used a deadly weapon, a sword, to cause physical injury to the victim and trespassed in the residence to commit felonious assault. The victim suffered a small cut on his elbow and a large welt on his back.

The grand jury met for two days, examining 52 witnesses covering 51 cases, and issued 36 open indictments and 15 secret indictments. Secret indictments aren't made public until the indictments are served.

Some of the open indictments issued included:

-- Edward Torres, 41, Green Lane, East Liverpool, second-degree felony of felonious assault, third-degree felonies of strangulation and violating a protection order and fifth-degree felony obstructing official business. Torres allegedly strangled a woman to the point of unconsciousness and struck her in the face when she went to the Green Lane residence to gather her belongings. She had a protection order against him at the time. The obstruction charge stemmed from a May 23 incident when he barricaded himself in the apartment and didn't cooperate with East Liverpool officers.

-- JC J. Marcum, 51, Moore Avenue, East Liverpool, second-degree felony of felonious assault and misdemeanor domestic violence for allegedly punching and kicking a woman multiple times in the face and body on May 16 and May 17 in East Liverpool. The woman received treatment at East Liverpool City Hospital and was found to have a broken orbital socket and jaw.

-- Robert K. Barrett, 38, West Ninth Street, East Liverpool, second-degree felony of felonious assault and misdemeanor domestic violence for allegedly battering the face of a woman in East Liverpool, jumping on her, beating her leg with a laptop battery pack, choking her until she lost consciousness and using her personal mace on her between March 19 and March 22. It was also learned that he made past threats to the victim by allegedly putting a knife to her throat and threatening to kill her with a claw hammer.

-- Dustin Andrews, 25, state Route 170, East Palestine, fifth-degree felony possession of cocaine for allegedly possessing cocaine on March 7.

-- Tim Rinestine, 52, Overlook Drive, Salem, third-degree felony tampering with evidence and misdemeanor illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly tossing a glass pipe off of the back deck of his residence when police responded for a female with a warrant on April 29 in Perry Township.

-- Sara Noling, 36, Taggart Street, East Palestine, fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on Jan. 14, 2022.

-- Lonnie Barker, 40, Irish Ridge Road, East Liverpool, first-degree felony aggravated burglary for allegedly for allegedly punching a door, breaking the plastic molding and forcing his way into an East Liverpool residence on May 9, then grabbing the victim, dragging her outside and throwing her to the ground. Another woman got involved and was also allegedly thrown to the ground

-- Randy W. Marshall, 33, Calcutta Smith Ferry Road, East Liverpool, fifth-degree felony obstructing official business, two counts of third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, and misdemeanor driving under suspension for allegedly fleeing Aug. 12, 2022 from St. Clair Township police attempting a traffic stop and again on May 6 this year on a motorcycle and then on foot before surrendering to K-9 Rebel and other officers.

-- Robert A. Endres, 34, Rose Drive, Lisbon, fourth-degree felony domestic violence and misdemeanor endangering children for allegedly assaulting a woman holding a child during a domestic on May 11 at a Rose Drive apartment in Lisbon, pushing and shoving the woman and causing the woman to fall to the ground while holding the child.

-- Lee Givens, 36, East Taggart Street, East Palestine, fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs for allegedly possessing meth on Jan 14, 2022.
