Salem

— Firefighters responded to the 1500 block of East Third Street at 6:55 p.m. Saturday for a reported house fire. When firefighters arrived, no smoke was showing from the residence. Entry was made through the rear door and the resident was contacted. A haze of smoke was present within the residence and the resident advised that a pizza box on the stove top caught fire and was smothered with a towel and disposed of in a trash can outside the rear door. Positive pressure ventilation was utilized to clear the smoke, and a water pressure extinguisher was sprayed in the trash can to extinguish the smoldering remains of the pizza box. Once the smoke was cleared officers checked the area again for possible extension, finding none.

— Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 5:54 a.m. Saturday for a possible fire behind a light switch. When they arrived, the tenant showed firefighters the suspected switch, which was found to be a glow switch with a light in it.
