LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Jan. 9 for Kaleb James Farnsworth, 30, Cartwright Street, East Liverpool, charged with fifth-degree felony breaking and entering and misdemeanors of possessing criminal tools, 12-point suspension and left of center. Farnsworth was accused of allegedly entering a Maple Lane property in St. Clair Township illegally on Dec. 15, when he was caught exiting the residence in possession of a forged title for a vehicle in the garage of the vacant home. He was known to not be allowed in the residence and possessed two backpacks that contained a mask, sawmill and two catalytic converters.

During an interview with St. Clair Township officers, he allegedly admitted to taking a television and various kitchenware from the home and allegedly said one catalytic converter was from a random car in Newell, W.Va., that he cut off and the other was from a vehicle in St. Clair Township. He alleged that a woman was the driver of the vehicle that took him there multiple times and she also went inside with him and they allegedly signed the title of the vehicle in the garage to himself. He was going to take the vehicle after charging the battery.

According to the police affidavit, Farnsworth allegedly had a journal that outlined target vehicles and homes in the area and what he would like to take from the residences.

Cases against Bud Nelson Hull, 45, West Ninth Street, East Liverpool, were bound over to the county grand jury for fourth-degree felony assault and misdemeanors of obstructing official business and menacing for allegedly threatening staff at Carriage Hill apartments in St. Clair Township with a handheld taser, then fleeing the scene on foot on Dec. 11. Police found him and he again fled before being taken into custody. Once at the jail, he was very uncooperative and kicked the police detective who was standing behind him in the leg.

A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Jan. 6 for Hope Jackson-Ingram, 31, Broadway Avenue, Wellsville, charged with fourth-degree felony strangulation and misdemeanor endangering children for allegedly choking a teen girl during a domestic on Dec. 13 in Wellsville.

A preliminary hearing was set Dec. 23 for Nicholas Todd Evans, 26, Niles, charged with third-degree felony compelling prostitution, fourth-degree felony attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and fifth-degree felonies of importuning and possessing criminal tools for allegedly requesting sexual conduct from a person, an undercover agent, he believed to be a 15-year-old girl for an agreed upon price of $80 and then driving to Salem on Dec. 15 for the meeting with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession.

A preliminary hearing was set Dec. 30 for Kassi Snay, 27, Malone Road, Salineville, charged with third-degree felony escape for allegedly removing a GPS ankle bracelet from the county jail while she was an inmate being treated at Salem Regional Medical Center in the emergency room, walking out and leaving on foot on Dec. 12. She was not accompanied by a deputy and signed a form that explained she could be charged with escape if the walked away. She was located by Salem police officers at North Union Avenue and East Third Street.

A pretrial was set Feb. 4 for Misty Conrad, 37, Cornell Street, East Liverpool, charged with domestic violence for allegedly putting her hands on another woman during a physical altercation on Dec. 14 in St. Clair Township.

A pretrial was set March 17 for Sonia Reed, 55, Cornell Street, East Liverpool, charged with domestic violence for allegedly throwing tea at another woman and putting hands on her during a physical altercation on Dec. 14 in St. Clair Township.

A pretrial was set Jan. 13 for Jimmy Anderson, 34, Pine Hollow Road, Lisbon, charged with violating a protection order for allegedly sending a letter to a protected person in Leetonia from the county jail on Nov. 15.

Ledel Vason, 45, Continental Drive, Salem, was fined $250 and sentenced to 30 days in jail, with 29 days suspended and credit for one day served, for menacing. He was ordered to stay away from the victim. Vason threatened a man during an altercation in their apartment complex laundry room on July 1 in Salem.

Thomas Klink Jr., 33, Ohio Avenue, Salem, was fined $100 and sentenced to two days in jail, with credit for two days served, for criminal trespass for being inside a Salem residence on Nov. 9 after being served an eviction notice on Nov. 8 for all persons to be removed.

Brooke Frye, 21, South Main Street, Columbiana, was fined $500 and given a suspended 180-day jail term for furnishing alcohol to underage persons for buying alcohol to furnish to underage persons in Columbiana on Oct. 18. She was ordered to complete 120 hours community service and a 12-hour parenting course.

A pretrial was set Feb. 24 for Kawand Woodbridge, 33, Youngstown, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly having a snort straw and other paraphernalia in the vehicle he was driving during a traffic stop on Dec. 15 in Columbiana. He was also fined $150 for expired tags and no license.

A pretrial was set March 18 for Stephen McDermott, 29, Bedell Road, Berlin Center, charged with driving under suspension and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly throwing a bag for the storage of dangerous drugs over a fence after running from a traffic stop on Dec. 13 in Salem.

David Allen Mayle, 52, Lumen Road NW, Minerva, was fined $475 and sentenced to 75 days in jail for open container and operating a vehicle impaired, which was merged with OVI refusal with prior within 20 years for sentencing. The jail sentence was ordered served at the same time as a sentence in Carroll County. His driver’s license was suspended for four years.

A motion hearing was set March 10 for John Burlini, 44, Poland, charged with OVI first offense and reasonable control.

Daniel Pumphrey, 68, McClure Road, East Palestine, was fined $825 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 134 days suspended, leaving 36 days to serve in electronically monitored house arrest and 10 days in the county jail for OVI, a headlights violation and driving under suspension. His driver’s license was suspended for two years.

A pretrial was set Feb. 24 for Devon Johnson, 70, East Ninth Street, Salem, charged with OVI first offense and reasonable control.

A pretrial was set Feb. 11 for Kristopher Smith, 34, Ohio Avenue, Salem, charged with failure to stop after an accident, reasonable control and no seat belt.

A pretrial was set Feb. 25 for Trenton Mathes, 19, Woodland Drive, Columbiana, charged with driving under suspension.

A pretrial was set Feb. 24 for Anthony Raines, 37, Clayburn Place, East Liverpool, charged with failure to display valid sticker.

A pretrial was set March 18 for Ryan Weldon, 31, East Liverpool Road, Lisbon, charged with use of unauthorized plate.

A pretrial was set March 13 for Dillon Allen, 31, Birch Road, East Liverpool, charged with driving under suspension.

Michael Russell, 42, Wells Avenue, Wellsville, was fined $200 for driving under suspension.

Cody Brayshaw, 23, Metz Road, Columbiana, was fined $50 for speeding.

Sam Hubby, 44, Jewett, was fined $50 for speeding.

William Neville, 51, Hillcrest Road, Wellsville, was fined $75 for speeding.

Samuel Mangual, 55, Austintown, was fined $180 for no seat belt and driving under suspension.

Court News

LISBON — In Columbiana County Common Pleas Court, Todd Sevek, 38, Purinton Avenue, East Liverpool, was placed under community control until March 21, 2027 and ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center in Wintersville after violating the terms of his intervention plan, which was dishonorably terminated for two counts of fifth-degree felony theft, one a lesser offense, and fourth-degree felony telecommunications fraud. He was originally charged with theft from a person in a protected class, a fourth-degree felony. Sevek was accused of taking money from an elderly woman’s bank account in Wellsville from April 17, 2023 through April 26, 2023, stealing her debit card and taking $2,563.

Grand Jury

LISBON — Two drug defendants were served last week in Wintersville with secret indictments issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury, including:

— Cody Hostetter, 23, North Pleasant Drive, East Palestine, charged in two separate indictments, for two counts aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on May 4, 2024 and on June 24, 2023 along with drug paraphernalia.

— Tyler Sadler, 24, McCracken Road, Salem, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, with a specification for forfeiture of money in a drug case for allegedly possessing $55 and methamphetamine on June 8, 2023.
