Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies at 5:18 a.m. Friday responded to a residential alarm at an address on Signal Road, Fairfield Township. The residence was checked and found secure from ground level.

— A barking dog was reported at 3:53 a.m. Friday on Winona Road, Butler Township, where a deputy found a dog barking and causing a disturbance. The resident was advised of the township ordinance and told they could be cited for future violations.

— At 11:57 p.m. Jan. 23, deputies were requested to assist the Ohio State Highway Patrol with an overturned vehicle crash on Black Road near Mattix Road. Deputies observed that a person left the scene walking south on Black Road due to shoe tracks found in the snow. The tracks were followed to a residence on Mattix Road where the person was located and transported back to the scene. The person was cited by the patrol and released, then given a courtesy ride back to his residence.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers were advised of drug activity by one of the parties involved and permission was given to seize the activity.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 11:08 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic in progress. The caller advised that they heard yelling and banging in the apartment next to theirs. Officers spoke with the involved parties separately and one party, Robert Cochran Jr., 36, Salem, advised that nothing physical occurred and that the banging in the apartment was the other slamming cupboards, while the other party requested medical attention. The fire department and EMT responded to the scene and transported them to the Salem Regional Medical Center. Cochran gathered clothes for his son and had a relative come to pick up his son, and officers took them into custody and transported them to the police department for processing prior to transport to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Street at 7:15 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised her ex-husband was over watching their kids and when she got home, he started yelling at her and allegedly snapped her laptop in half and is constantly texting and calling her. Officers took photos of the computer and advised her of her options and had her inform the person to stop contacting her unless it was involving their kids. The caller then wanted to trespass the ex from the residence and once back at police department officers attempted to contact him via public service due to him living outside the jurisdiction to advise him of the trespass notice, but no contact was made.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Vine Avenue at 5:25 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that while they were outside a man walked up to the residence and took a picture of them and they wanted law enforcement to be away of the incident. Officers advised an extra patrol would be in the area of the residence.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department regarding telecommunications harassment at 1:40 p.m. Monday. The caller advised that their ex has been contacting him even after being told to stop doing so. Officers contacted the other party and advised them of the complaint.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:51 a.m. Monday regarding a report of littering at South Ellsworth Avenue near the train tracks. The woman advised that she had seen multiple empty aluminum cans off the roadway near the tracks. The woman was advised that officers will keep watch in the area for people committing the act.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Second Street at 11:17 a.m. Monday for a report of criminal damage to a motor vehicle. The caller advised that she was driving her adult son home from the doctors when a verbal altercation started over calling the pharmacy to pick up his medication, and the son got angry and started kicking the inside of the vehicle causing damage to the middle console and breaking the windshield. Officers spoke with the son who did admit to kicking the middle console and damaging the windshield and advised that he had only done so to keep his mother from yelling at him.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:03 a.m. Monday to block westbound traffic while Perry Township handled a multi-vehicle crash on the bypass east of Depot Road. Officers remained until dispatch was notified the roadway could be re-opened.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Eighth Street at 9:47 a.m. Monday for a report of phone harassment. The caller who advised her niece was texting her threatening messages about moving items in her house while she was in a medical care facility. The caller wanted her niece to stop texting her and leave her alone and officers contacted the niece advising her of the same. The niece advised that she wouldn’t contact her again.

Perry Township

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of West Wilson Street at 4:23 a.m. Monday to speak with the caller.

— Officers on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 62 and state Route 45 near Goshen Road at 3:44 a.m. Sunday observed multiple vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers were able to get one of the vehicles stopped as a driver ditched a stolen pickup leaving in an alternate vehicle. The matter remains under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Van Buren Avenue at 11:08 p.m. Saturday for a reported trespass complaint. Officers spoke with the caller who advised they would like to issue a no trespass to their son. Officers spoke with the son and issued the order.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Springdale Street at 8:14 p.m. Saturday for 911 open-line call. It was found that the man had a new smart watch that had accidentally dialed.

— Officers responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Fifth Street at 2:05 a.m. Saturday to assist Salem officers with a traffic stop. Officers stood by while a probable cause search was conducted.

— Officers responded to Dollar General at 9:25 p.m. Friday for a report of two suspicious men repeatedly entering and leaving the store and sitting in their vehicle for an extended period of time. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle and advised the caller to call again if they returned.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Georgetown Road at 6:42 p.m. Friday for a single vehicle accident. Officers located the vehicle, which had overturned and was sitting on its roof with the driver still inside and the fire department was already on scene and working to extricate the driver. Once they were out of the vehicle, they received medical attention from EMT and were transported from the scene. After investigating the incident officers determined that the vehicle had driven off the right side of the roadway striking a ditch, a tree and rolling several times.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Conser Drive at 3:27 p.m. Friday for a report of a man and woman arguing in the driveway. Officers located the people involved in their vehicle and were advised that the male half was dropping off his girlfriend at the residence because she does home health care and they got into an argument, and both advised that the argument was verbal only.

— Officers responded to the 2000 block of Cunningham Road at 10:45 a.m. for a report of a possible piece of metal frame sticking up from the railroad tracks. Officers found a portion of the rubber bumper next to the rail had partially torn off and removed the piece of rubber.

— Officers spoke with a woman by phone at 3:47 p.m. Thursday regarding bullying being experienced by her son at school. Officers advised them to contact the school resource officer through the Salem Police Department to handle situation.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 11:16 a.m. Thursday for a report of property damage that occurred the day prior. They advised that at approximately 9:30 on a CTI semi with trailer pulled of Goshen Road onto U.S. Route 62 in front of her vehicle southbound vehicle, causing her to swerve to the right side of the roadway in an attempt to avoid striking the semi, and it hit her driver’s side mirror with the rear of the trailer and continued northbound on U.S. Route 62. The caller turned around and caught up with the semi at the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and North Ellsworth Avenue and attempted to flag them down and took pictures of the semi and trailer. They attempted to call the company to report the incident but could not get any cooperation from the company and observed the caller’s driver’s side mirror was missing from her vehicle.
