Highway Patrol

— Natasha Joy, of Alliance, was not cited after a single vehicle crash at 1 .m. Jan. 29 in Fairfield Township. Joy was westbound on state Route 558 when she traveled off the road into a snowbank before overturning her vehicle. Road conditions attributed to the crash, according to investigators.

Sheriff’s Office

— A resident on state Route 46, Fairfield Township, reported at 9:42 p.m. Friday that two people with flashlights were in the field next to her property. Deputies checked the field and the area, but with no contact with anyone.

— A man from Spillway Road, Hanover Township, reported at 7:05 p.m. Friday that during a custody exchange in the parking lot of United Local School, state Route 9, Hanover Township, the children’s grandmother began yelling at him, allegedly leaning into the back seat of the vehicle when he was putting the children in and yelling over a stocking cap. He was advised to contact an attorney.

— A runaway juvenile was reported at 8:59 p.m. Thursday on Hartley Road, Knox Township. The juvenile was located.

— A woman on North Street, Knox Township, called at 7:16 p.m. Thursday to report a suspicious vehicle parked across the street from her residence. Upon arrival, the vehicle was gone.

Salem

— Officers responded to the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and West Fourth Street at 1:16 a.m. Monday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that he observed someone attempting to gain entry into his neighbor’s home in Perry Township before leaving the area on foot. Perry Township Officers responded to the residence and officers responded to the area to attempt to locate the person, but nobody was found in the area.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of North Howard Avenue at 9:59 p.m. Sunday for a report of criminal trespassing. The caller advised that his stepson who had already been criminally trespassed from the residence earlier in the day had walked up to his front door with a baseball bat and left the residence northbound prior to officers’ arrival. Officers located the person, Allen Vancooney, 29, Salem, in the 100 block of East Eighth Street and he was subsequently detained. He was ultimately taken into custody charged with criminal trespass and transported to the police department for processing and then transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 9:55 p.m. Sunday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that she had walked up to a residence and asked the homeowner for a phone that belonged to a person that left prior to officers’ arrival and the homeowner kept pushing her and made her get off her porch. The caller advised the homeowner had also walked over to the laundry mat and started another argument, and that they didn’t want anything done but wanted the homeowner to stay inside while they finish their laundry. Officers attempted to contact the homeowner, but nobody answered the door.

— Officers on patrol in the 1200 block of Buckeye Avenue at 8:59 p.m. Sunday observed a suspicious man near the basement stairway of Buckeye Elementary. Officers spoke with the man who advised that he was just stopping for a few minutes due to a medical condition and was walking home from a business in the 200 block of West Fourteenth Street.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of North Howard Avenue at 2:26 p.m. Sunday for a reported criminal trespass report. The caller advised that they wanted a man trespassed from their home and officers had them fill out the criminal trespass form and served the man in question with the notice.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Penn Avenue at 11:12 a.m. Sunday for a report of a woman banging her head against the window inside the post office. The caller also advised there was a man with the woman. Officers spoke with a man and woman matching the description given and the female denied banging her head and the man stated he didn’t see anything. Both parties stated they were fine and didn’t need any medical attention.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of East Third Street at 10:06 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised everything was fine.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 12:41 a.m. Sunday for a reported neighbor complaint. The caller advised that their neighbors were spraying chemicals into her windows. Officers were unable to locate anyone near the residence.

— Officers responded to the area of East State Street and South Broadway Avenue at 12:12 a.m. Sunday for a report of a possible intoxicated driver. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle in question.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Columbia Street at 9:09 p.m. Saturday for a warrant check. Officers were unable to contact anyone.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Fifth Street at 8:01 p.m. Saturday to check a residence for a person with multiple warrants. The person in question was not home and is currently in rehab.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 8:09 p.m. Saturday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that her neighbors were spraying chemicals in her windows. Nobody was found near the residence, nor was any evidence of chemicals being sprayed found, and all her windows were shut. Officers advised her to keep the windows closed and doors locked.

— Officers responded to the parking lot of Walmart for a report of juveniles left in a vehicle at 6:41 p.m. Saturday. Officers checked but did not locate the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 5:33 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check on a man driving erratically. Officers checked the parking lot where the vehicle was last seen but were unable to locate it.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Sixth Street at 4:56 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the juvenile in question and his father and were advised the juvenile had made threats of harm to himself and others, which the juvenile denied. Officers advised them to call back if something changed and while on scene found that the father had an outstanding warrant through another county. The other county advised officers they did not want him and to make the man aware of the warrant.

— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Franklin Avenue at 4:09 p.m. Saturday for a reported juvenile issue. The caller advised that a male juvenile left his counseling center and ran out of the building without permission. Prior to officers’ arrival the juvenile returned to the building and officers advised him that he can’t run away from his mother and can’t leave the building without permission, and the juvenile apologized and advised he wouldn’t do it again.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 3:50 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. Officers spoke to the juvenile in question who advised that she would not give her cell phone to her mother, and that when her mother grabbed her phone, she injured her thumb. Officers observed the hand and thumb to be moving fine and spoke with the mother who confirmed the story about the phone and advised them that the juvenile has been out of control. Officers advised both parties to separate for the night.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 1 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller received a phone call from her juvenile son who then hung up and they were unable to contact them again. Officers spoke with the juvenile and his caretaker who advised that everything was fine but that the juvenile did smash the phone.

— Officers on patrol in the 1900 block of Southeast Boulevard at 10:01 a.m. Saturday observed multiple vehicles parked in a no parking zone. Officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle who advised they had stopped for a garage sale and moved the vehicles.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of East State Street at 9:31 a.m. Saturday for a reported water line break. Officers located the issue, and the water department was contacted to handle the matter.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Broadway Avenue at 9:09 a.m. Saturday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke to all parties involved, collecting statements and advising them to remain separated for the remainder of the day.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Aetna Street at 7:51 a.m. Saturday for a reported barking dog complaint. Officers spoke with the owner who advised the dog does bark at the other dog behind her fence, but that she brought the dog inside prior to officers’ arrival.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 11:43 p.m. Friday for a reported burglary in progress. The caller advised that a man with a black ski mask walked up to the door of a business and attempted to gain entry. Officers checked the area but nobody was located, and the business was secure.

— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Ridgewood Drive at 10:10 p.m. Friday for a request to remove a resident. Officers explained the eviction process.

— Officers responded to the entrance of Centennial Park at 7:27 p.m. Friday for a report of debris in the roadway. Loose concrete was struck by a vehicle spreading it onto the road and cones were deployed for traffic control and to block a hole in the road.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 6:15 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. Officers checked the area and spoke with two people, advising them to stay away from the business.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 3:54 p.m. Friday for a report of two bad checks which were given to their business for items purchased totaling $2,300. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 3:52 p.m. who advised that an unknown person had hacked their Snapchat account. Officers advised them to contact Snapchat support and report the incident.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 3:36 p.m. Friday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with an alleged sex offense. The person involved was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail and $94 was seized as part of the investigation.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 2:09 p.m. Friday for a parking complaint. The caller advised there were multiple cars parked on the street and in the wrong direction. Officers checked the area but did not locate any vehicle parked anywhere on the street.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Second Street at 12:23 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a man was walking and talking to himself. Officers checked the man and could not locate anyone matching the description given.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Quaker Lane at 12:09 p.m. Friday for a medical call. The caller advised that she had fallen down the stairs hitting her head and back on the wall and that she was home alone when she fell. She was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital by EMT.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Hawley Avenue at 10:53 a.m. Friday to locate a man with an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Offices spoke with the man, Darren Vernon, 61, Salem, placing him into custody and transporting him to the Columbiana County Jail.

— The school resource officer was advised of an incident that happened with a student and their family member in Perry Township at 10:24 a.m. Friday. Perry Township officers were advised, and they responded to the school to take the report.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:16 a.m. Friday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that they had an incident with an employee “the other night” during which the employee made comments about causing physical harm to two other employees. The employee was going to be terminated that day, and the caller was officers to be aware of the situation in case they caused an incident.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 8:18 a.m. Friday for a report of multiple people on the caller’s property with firearms. Officers investigated and determined there was nobody with firearms on the property and the caller was then observed to be experiencing a possible medical issue. The fire department and EMT responded, and the man was transported to a medical facility for further evaluation.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Woodland Avenue at 6:39 a.m. Friday for a reported juvenile complaint. The caller advised that the juvenile had become physically violent with her during an altercation and following an investigation the juvenile was taken into custody for domestic violence and was transported to the Louis Tobin Juvenile Attention Center.
