Sheriff’s Office

— A deputy was dispatched at 7:21 p.m. Friday to the 1100 block of Cider Mill Road, Butler Township, for a Sirius XM emergency alert from a vehicle possibly in a motor vehicle crash. The area was checked, but nobody was found.

— A woman on Taylor Road, Middleton Township, reported a possible scam at 4:34 p.m. Friday, reporting that money in her bank account was transferred to her other bank account. She was advised to notify her bank.

— A suspicious vehicle was reported driving slowly in the area of state Route 517 in Elkrun Township at 8:55 p.m. Feb. 20, but when a deputy checked, nothing was found.

— A welfare check was requested for a person on Shelton Road, Butler Township at 3:56 p.m. Feb. 20, with negative contact. Then deputies were advised to check on U.S. Route 62, Butler Township, but again there was negative contact. Deputies made contact with the person by phone and learned the person wasn’t at either location and was fine.

— A deputy was dispatched at 3:20 p.m. Feb. 20 to Rochester Road, West Township, for a medical call. Sandy Creek EMS transported the person to Aultman Alliance Community Hospital in Alliance.

— Deputies were dispatched at 10:05 p.m. Feb. 18 to Depot Road, Hanover Township for a domestic dispute.

— A missing person was reported at 6:31 p.m. Feb. 18 on Gills Lane, Hanover Township, but was found safe in Ashtabula County.

— A deputy was dispatched at 4:16 p.m. Feb. 18 to Dyke Road, Middleton Township for a domestic dispute.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Maple Street at 10:33 p.m. Sunday for a reported disturbance. The caller advised that a man had been in the home drinking all day and was attempting to start a fight with the other occupants. No threats nor violence occurred, and officers spoke with the man who was mildly intoxicated and advised his wife had let the caller and her teenage son move in a few months ago as they had nowhere else to go. The man also advised that he was stressed over handling all the bills and was trying to relax after a long work week. He agreed to stay upstairs and avoid the caller for the night until they could revisit the issues in the residence.

— Officers responded to the area of South Lundy Avenue and East Euclid Street at 10:32 p.m. Sunday for a report of a male juvenile stumbling around. The caller advised that they had lost sight of the person prior to officers’ arrival and officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone.

— Officers responded to the area of Newgarden Avenue and Arch Street at 10:27 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person lying on the ground with an injury. Officers spoke with the man, Randal Smith, 61, Salem, who was severely intoxicated and injured from a fall. During the incident Smith began to defecate in a private lot and in doing so was exposed directly in front of the caller and their juveniles who were also inside the vehicle. Smith was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and after being medically cleared was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with disorderly conduct.

— Officers responded to the area of Lexington Avenue and Continental Drive at 8:23 p.m. Sunday for a report of two people on scooter threatening to break into a car. Officers located the juveniles on East State Street and spoke with them about the matter, determining the situation appeared to be a misunderstanding.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 8:02 p.m. Sunday regarding an ongoing matter. Officers collected information about the matter and the case will be forwarded to children services and the detectives.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 3:34 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers found that all of the juveniles in the vehicle were okay and that a parent was trying to get one child in the car that was kicking and screaming. Officers advised the children to listen to their parents.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Pershing Street at 12:23 p.m. Sunday for a report of theft. The caller advised that she had parked her vehicle at a business the previous evening and an unknown person took the driver’s side front wheel and tire without her knowledge or permission. Officers offered them their options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 12:18 p.m. Sunday for a report of criminal trespass and telecommunications harassment. Officers advised all parties to have no further contact. The trespass notice was served and the person in question was advised to have no further contact with the business or its employees.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Seventh Street at 11:59 a.m. Sunday for a reported neighbor dispute. Officers spoke with both parties who advised threats had been made and watched a recording of the incident, though no threats were made in the recording. All parties were given a written statement form if they wanted to fill it out and advised to stay away from one another.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Sixteenth Street at 12:35 a.m. Sunday for a reported fight. Officers collected information from all involved parties who were intoxicated and received conflicting stories. No parties wanted to pursue charges, and they were advised to stay separated for the night and speak with officers further the next day due to their intoxication.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of East State Street at 8:29 p.m. Saturday for a report of threats. Officers spoke with both sides and an independent witness and the matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Shady Lane at 5:03 p.m. Saturday for a reported juvenile problem. It was advised that the juveniles were acting up and not listening to their mother. Officers spoke with the juveniles and advised them to listen to their mother.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Pershing Street at 2:37 p.m. Saturday for a reported person down. Officers stood by until the person was transported to the emergency room by ambulance.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:31 a.m. Saturday for a reported disorderly person. The caller advised that the person in question had been irate prior to officers’ arrival but had calmed down and they completed their business and left the property. The caller advised that she did not want him trespassed at that time.

— Officers on patrol in the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and East Second Street at 3:23 a.m. Saturday observed a man stumbling and appear to fall. Officers spoke with the man, Chance Beitler, 28, Leetonia, giving him several options for a ride or shelter and Beitler was unable to provide any of the necessary information and was taken into custody and transported to the police department for processing prior to transport to the Columbiana County Jail charged with disorderly conduct.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 8:18 p.m. Friday for a reported juvenile issue that occurred at an unknown place and time. Officers collected information and the matter will be forwarded to the juvenile center.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Maple Street at 8:10 p.m. Friday for a report of an irate person. Officers spoke with the person in question and asked if there was any medical assistance needed, which they declined, and officers advised them to contact the department if anything further was needed.

— Officers responded to Smith Oil at 7:50 p.m. Friday for a reported drive off involving a person who had taken kerosene totaling $21.46. Officers collected the relevant information.

— Officers on patrol in the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and East Fifth Street at 7:25 p.m. Friday observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Officers were given consent to search the vehicle, and contraband was recovered and properly destroyed, and officers issued a written warning for the traffic violation.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 3:53 p.m. Friday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that a person had struck their vehicle with a glass bottle. Officers spoke with the woman in question Dustie White, 33, Salem, who advised that she did break the bottle but had not hit the caller’s vehicle with it. While speaking with them officers found that they had an active warrant out of Trumbull County and were requested to take her into custody and transport her to the Columbiana County Jail. White was advised that the incident would be reviewed by the prosecutor’s office.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 2:39 p.m. Friday for a criminal trespass report. The caller advised they wanted a man trespassed from their business and filled out the trespass notice and advised the person in question. They advised they understood and would not return.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 2:02 p.m. Friday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with an arrest in the city. The person in question was transported to the police department for processing and then transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— The school resource officer was advised of an issue with a student at Reilly Elementary at 11:06 a.m. Friday. The officer and school administrators addressed the issue with the student, and he advised he would not cause the issue again.
