Sheriff’s Office

— A Brookfield Street, Center Township resident reported at 7:34 p.m. Wednesday that there was a burglary at his residence, but at this time, no items were missing.

— Deputies were dispatched at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday to Roseland Commons, Rose Drive, Center Township, for a trespassing report. Ariel Durham, 36, Duck Creek Road, Salem, was charged with criminal trespass and taken to the Columbiana County jail. A pretrial was set May 22 for her in county Municipal Court.

— A woman on County Airport Road, Madison Township reported at 11:44 p.m. Tuesday that her neighbors were allegedly trespassing on her property and she’s now missing firewood that was chopped up.

— A disturbance was reported at 10:44 p.m. Tuesday n Rose Drive, Center Township. Deputies were unable to locate what the disturbance was or who was involved.

— Deputies were dispatched at 10:13 p.m. Tuesday to a 911 hangup call on state Route 517, Fairfield Township. The homeowner told deputies it was an Apple watch that called and everything was fine.

— Dispatch advised at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday that East Palestine dispatch received a call from a person in Oklahoma who reported a person on Jimtown Road, Unity Township was making suicidal threats online. Deputies spoke with the person, who was fine and with family.

— A woman on state Route 644, Hanover Township reported at 7:31 p.m. Tuesday that her neighbor was playing loud music. While a deputy was en route, the music was turned off.

— A woman on Bon Drive, Knox Township reported at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday that a man moved out of her residence on Feb. 18 and she attempted multiple times to make contact with him to come and get his belongings with negative contact. As of Tuesday, he reportedly told her she can keep his belongings.

— A man on Bayard Road, West Township reported at 5:09 p.m. Tuesday that another man from West Township was peeling the tires on his vehicle in the road in front of the man’s residence when a rock hit his windshield and cracked it.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:05 a.m. Thursday for a wellness check. The caller advised that a man was slumped over inside of a vehicle. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that he was waiting to go to his ex’s house. The man’s license was suspended and officers attempted to get a ride for him, and he agreed to come back to the police department until one was located.

— Officers on patrol in the 100 block of Penn Avenue at 10:12 p.m. Wednesday observed a man outside his vehicle looking for something. Officers spoke with the man who advised he’d lost his wallet at Dairy Queen. Officers spoke with employees who advised the did not find it and after a few minutes of looking in his vehicle the man found his wallet.

— Officers responded to the 2700 block of East State Street at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday for a report of suspicious activity. An employee showed officers video of a woman place a cell phone under pallets in the parking lot. The owner of the phone arrived on scene, and it was returned to them.

— Richard Gregory, 62, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his eastbound vehicle on West State Street attempted to turn onto Elm Avenue causing it to be struck by a vehicle driven westbound by Cathrine Leake, 24, Berlin Center at 3:07 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Third Street at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday for a reported hit and skip. The caller advised that it had occurred about an hour before he called the department and that he just wanted a report on file.

— Officers responded to the 36200 block of Old state Route 558 at 2:11 p.m. Wednesday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office with an attempt to locate a person with an outstanding warrant. Officers spoke with a resident who advised the person in question was not there nor were they welcome there.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 2:06 p.m. Wednesday regarding a package being delivered to the wrong address. Officers attempted contact where the package was delivered but were unsuccessful. Officers will attempt contact again at a later time.

— Officers responded with the housing and zoning department to the 300 block of South Broadway Avenue for a report of barricades blocking the alley. Officers spoke with the landowner who owns land on both sides of the alley and advised them that the barricades had to be removed until the alley is vacated by the city. They advised they understood and removed the barricades. The zoning officer further advised them of the process to vacate an alley which they also said they understood.

— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 12:56 p.m. Wednesday regarding a stolen package. Officers were advised that FedEx attempted to deliver a package for the caller which was refused by a family member but still signed for and marked as delivered despite never been given to a family member. Officers advised that a police report would be made.

— Officers were made aware of an incident that occurred within city limits back in 2023 involving juveniles. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers learned of a person who possibly entered a vacant apartment in the 300 block of North Broadway Avenue and has been staying there at 11:19 a.m. Wednesday. Contact was made with the property owner who advised that the apartment has been vacant for the past five months and nobody has permission to be inside. Officers later checked the apartment and found nobody present, but that someone had been living in the apartment. The owner was contacted and advised that he would take care of securing the property.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 10:43 a.m. Wednesday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with an alleged sex offense. The person in question, Octavious Clark, 47, Warren, was taken into custody and $80 was seized as part of the investigation, and further investigation showed that Clark had an active warrant out of the Mercer County District Attorney’s Office in Pennsylvania. Clark was transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with fugitive of justice, and charges from the Human Trafficking Task Force.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 9:42 a.m. Wednesday for a requested stand by while the caller retrieved property. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

Perry Township

— Officers on patrol in the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday located a suspicious vehicle. Officers found the vehicle to be secure and unoccupied.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Pershing Street to assist Salem officers with a warrant at 11:06 p.m. Tuesday. Officers assisted until no longer needed.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 5 p.m. Tuesday for a report of trespassing. The caller advised that her father entered her house unannounced that day and was standing behind her husband while running the vacuum and that this was not the first incident, and she has advised her father to knock on the door. The caller wanted an officer to speak with him and advised him of she and her husband’s wishes. Officers attempted contact and left a message.

— Charles Hildreth III, 50, Salem, was cited for a failure to yield after his vehicle turned onto state Route 45 and struck a vehicle driven westbound on U.S. Route 62 by Richard Pekkanen, 49, Boardman at 5:17 a.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Depot Road at 4:56 p.m. Monday for a report of threatening notes left in the mailbox of a residence. The caller presented officers with the material and advised that other neighbors have been leaving similar items and that they believed a resident on Depot Road was the one leaving the items. Officers offered to contact the resident and advised them to stop but the caller was worried that might antagonize them and only wanted a report taken for the time being. Officers were also advised that a detective had received similar material in his mailbox and officers requested the detective follow up with them.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 6:15 p.m. Sunday to check for a man with an active felony warrant. Officers spoke with a resident and found that the man, Danny Shultz Jr., had fled from the residence and after a brief foot pursuit he was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Pidgeon Road at 7:45 p.m. Sunday for a report of a suspicious man. The man was asking if the homeowner had seen his dog and after being advised no, the man continued to knock and would not leave. The man finally left in a dark colored vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cider Mill Road at 6:23 p.m. Saturday to provide EMT with a lift assist. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Jackson Avenue at 8:10 a.m. Saturday for a report of missing prescription medication. The woman advised officers that she did not know who would have taken it or how she could have lost them. Officers contacted the Salem Police Department who advised that they had dealt with the woman on Feb. 28 in relation to a possible overdose, but she did not have the medication in question on her person at that time. The woman also asked for a copy of the report so that she could get the prescriptions refilled by her doctor.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of West State Street at 11 p.m. Feb. 28 for a reported 911 open line. When officers contact the man, he made statements about harming himself, and EMT responded and transported the man.
