Sheriff’s Office

— A possible prowler was reported at 4:04 a.m. Saturday on Malone Road, Washington Township, then the callers reported a power pole was down next to their home. When a deputy arrived, the callers said they thought they had heard a prowler, but it appeared the pole had fallen and that was the noise they heard. The area was checked for any other activity. The deputy found the pole appeared to have rotted and fallen over.

— Deputies responded at 2:06 a.m. Saturday to an address on Cream Ridge Road, Elkrun Township, for a complaint of suspicious activity on an email account. Deputies spoke with the person who was concerned about emails he was receiving on an account that was not his. He was told to send the emails to the deputy for further inspection. It was determined the emails were from several years ago when the person and another subject had been speaking to one another.

Salem

— Officers responded to the area of the Newgarden Avenue railroad crossing at 5:34 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a truck having struck and broke a rail crossing gate arm. Officers observed the truck had already left the area and dispatch contacted Norfolk Southern and were advised that someone was being sent to repair the gate. Officers stood by until a train came through to confirm that the flashing lights were still functioning at the railroad crossing.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 1:06 a.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic. Officers found the matter to be a verbal argument over relationship issues. Both parties were advised of the domestic violence laws.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Perry Street at 10:42 p.m. Monday for a noise complaint. When officers arrived, no loud music was heard and the homeowner advised that she and her friends were listening to music earlier but had since turned it down. She was advised of the noise ordinance and potential issues if officers had to return to the residence.

— Officers on patrol in the area of Southeast Boulevard and Franklin Avenue at 10:39 p.m. Monday observed a vehicle with only one headlight. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found the driver, James Oiler, 41, Wellsville, had an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers confirmed the warrant and took Oiler into custody, transporting him to the police department for processing before transporting him to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of Newgarden Avenue at 9:07 p.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. Officers were advised that the caller’s ex-boyfriend was on scene and trying to get into her residence. Officers were also advised by the caller that the person had left prior to officers’ arrival but advised that he would be back. Officers advised the caller to call back in needed.

— Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 7:39 p.m. Monday regarding a report of fraud. The man advised that his ex-wife had sent herself money through his bank account which she should not have access to. Officers advised the caller that the case would be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:55 p.m. Monday to speak with the caller regarding a restraining order. Officers advised the caller of the process to obtain an order.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Mound Street at 2:55 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Nobody answered the door at the residence and dispatch did not have a good number for the person in questions.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 10:05 a.m. Monday for a reported civil matter. The woman advised her doctor’s office terminated her care due to violating an office policy. The woman advised that she wanted a report on file for possible legal action against the doctor’s office.

— The school resource officer was advised of an issue with a student at 9:59 a.m. Monday. Officers stood by while the student calmed down so he could go to class.

— The school resource officer was advised of an issue with a student at 9:54 a.m. Monday. The issue was found to be a behavioral problem which led to a medical issue and their mother responded and took them to the hospital.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:36 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that they were fine and were experiencing anxiety. Officers offered them medical attention, which they denied.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:09 a.m. Monday for a reported burglary in progress. Officers checked around the exterior of the residence finding nothing abnormal and nobody was found inside or outside the residence.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:40 p.m. Sunday for a reported prowler. Officers checked the area, and everything appeared to be normal.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Westview Avenue at 7:02 p.m. Sunday to attempt to locate a woman with an active warrant. Officers were unable to contact them.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Continental Drive at 7:02 p.m. Sunday for a warrant check. Officers were unable to contact the person in question.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 4:49 a.m. Sunday for a reported unknown issue. A woman wanted to give officers contraband from her residence and advised that she wanted medical attention. The woman was transported to the Salem hospital.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:05 a.m. Sunday for a reported criminal trespass complaint. The caller advised that a man and woman were refusing to leave the bar after the staff asked them to leave several times. The bar staff advised the man was in the women’s restroom while the woman continued arguing with the bartender. Officers identified both and issued them with trespass notices and made it clear that if they returned to the business they would be arrested. Officers stood by until they were picked up.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of Barclay Avenue at 1:07 a.m. Sunday for a reported medical problem. Officers secured the scene and stood by while the fire department treated the patient.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 11:46 p.m. Saturday for a reported dispute. Officers spoke with a man who advised that seven other people attempted to fight him and had left prior to officers’ arrival. The man advised he would get the other people’s names and come to the police department at a later date and the matter is under investigation. While officers were on scene another man, Gregory Curtis, 26, Salem, was intoxicated with an open container in public and was refusing to identify themselves to officers, and after being briefly detained and identified was cited for disorderly conduct.

— Officers on patrol in the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Aetna Street at 10:11 p.m. Saturday conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving violation. During the stop the vehicle was slow to stop and the driver, Cletis Monroy, 41, Salem, was observed reaching around his right side. K-9 Chaz was deployed during the stop and alerted to the presence of narcotic odor coming from the vehicle. Monroy was cited for traffic control device.

— Officers on patrol in the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Aetna Street at 8:32 p.m. Saturday observed a man looking into an Ohio Edison truck. Officers spoke with the man and sent him on his way.

— Officers assisted the Alliance Police Department with a pursuit that briefly entered the city and left in the area of state Route 14 and state Route 165 at 6:44 p.m. Saturday.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Fairview Court at 2:29 p.m. for a civil standby. The caller advised his girlfriend was voluntarily moving out of the residence due to an incident that night prior and they would like a police presence. The girlfriend gathered her belongings without an issue and prior to officers’ departure both the caller and the girlfriend were trespassed from the residence.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fourth Street at 10:37 a.m. Saturday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised that she and the other party had been in a verbal altercation, and he had taken their children with him when he left, and she wanted them back. Officers spoke with the man and advised that due to them not being married and no court paperwork the children would have to return to their mother. They advised they understood, and the children were returned.

Leetonia

— An alarm drop was received at 7:37 a.m. March 19 from the Leetonia Italian American Club. All doors were found secure with nothing out of place.

— Police responded at 12:17 p.m. March 19 to the 100 block of High Street in response to a suicidal male suffering from hallucinations. He was transported to the hospital.

— An officer was dispatched to backup an unresponsive Washingtonville police officer at11:06 a.m. March 20 in the 400 block of Washington Street. Upon contact with the officer, who was sitting in his car, it was theorized it must have been a location problem with his radio.

— Officers responded at 2:45 a.m. March 19 to th 300 block of Pearl Street for a verbal domestic. As a result of the interaction with officers, the female half was transported to the hospital for assistance with her mental health by ambulance.

— Police investigated a private property crash at 3:42 p.m. March 19 in the 400 block of Columbia Street.

— The following day, officers responded at 3:02 p.m. March 20 again to the 400 block of Columbia Street, where a driver suffered a seizure in the drive-thru for Leetonia Market, causing him to accelerate his vehicle and crash into a tree and a parked vehicle. He was briefly unresponsive and transported to the hospital.

— A Kensington resident contacted Leetonia police shortly after noon March 21 to report her boyfriend, who is employed at Pennex within Leetonia jurisdiction, took her vehicle from Kensington and parked it in Lisbon. She requested an officer to go to Pennex and retrieve her keys and the vehicle title. An officer did as ask and he denied having the title but turned over the keys, which then were given to the original complainant on station.
