Sheriff’s Office
— Deputies were dispatched at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday to Old Monroeville Road, Salineville, for a male subject sitting alongside the roadway on a cell phone allegedly making suicidal threats. Deputies spoke with the man, who was fine, and no suicidal threats were made.
— Deputies responded at 5:56 p.m. Tuesday to state Route 45, Madison Township, for a welfare check on a man. Deputies spoke with the man who was fine and with family.
Highway Patrol
— A vehicle-pedestrian incident in Fairfield Township has been forwarded to the Columbiana County prosecutor for possible charges. According to the report, Wayne Styen, of East Park Avenue in Columbiana, was traveling westbound at 5:22 p.m. March 11 on Southern, when his vehicle struck 2-year-old Katelynn Shafer, who had dashed out on foot in his lane of traffic. Katelynn had been unsupervised in the house, watching TV, when her father had left the home to assist with the construction of a shed out in the yard, according to the narrative. She didn’t have a history of dashing out the front door to play in the street, according to her father.
— Izeah Dunham, of Canton, was cited at 3:45 p.m. March 16 in Knox Township for failure to control, after he was traveling westbound on Georgetown Road and drove off the right side of the road, striking several objects before going down the embankment.
— Ashley Felger, of Echo Dell Road in Rogers, was cited at 1:30 a.m. March 21 in Madison Township for failure to control, after traveling off the right side of Sprucevale Road and striking an utility pole.
— Dylan Garlock, of Mechanicstown Road in Hanoverton, was cited at 2:44 p.m. March 19 for improper backing, after he struck James Sturgeon, of Campbell Road in Hanoverton, while backing out of a private drive on Mechanicstown Road.
— Mark Christopher Geon, of East Main Street in New Waterford, was cited at 6:18 p.m. March 19 in Fairfield Township, after Geon was southeastbound on Creek Road and went off the right side of the road, striking a ditch.
— Victoria Anderson, of Crews Road in Wellsville, was cited at 7:30 a.m. March 18 for failure to control in Madison Township. While traveling southbound on state Route 45, Anderson’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, striking a mailbox, an utility pole, a traffic sign and embankment.
— Mark Smith, of County Airport Road in East Liverpool, was cited at 2:25 a.m. March 17 for failure to control in Madison Township. Smith was northbound on County Airport Road when his vehicle traveled off the right side and struck a sign and a pole.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fourth Street at 10:59 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. Officers knocked on the door for several minutes but were unable to contact them.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. Officers were able to contact the person in question and advised them to contact the caller.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Seventh Street at 9:07 p.m. Tuesday for a reported assault. The caller advised that they were thrown to the ground by a person who then walked down the road. Officers met the man down the road from the residence and he advised that the caller was pushing him and when he pushed her back, she had fallen. Officers spoke with the caller who advised they didn’t want to pursue charges and just wanted him trespassed. Officers had the man sign a trespass notice and he left.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Lundy Avenue at 8:41 p.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. Officers were advised of a person walking and shadow boxing with others around. Officers spoke with the juvenile in question who advised another group of juveniles were bothering him and that shadow boxing helps him calm down. Officers spoke with the juvenile some more until he had calmed down and he then walked home.
— Officers spoke to a juvenile at the police department at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday regarding a dispute in the 1200 block of Robin Avenue. Officers spoke with the other parties over the phone who provided conflicting stories, and the guardian of the juvenile was advised of their options.
— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 1:12 p.m. Tuesday who advised that when they went to file their 2024 taxes, they were advised that someone else had already filed them under their name. Officers advised them that a police report would be made.
— Officers responded to the area of Continental Drive and Lexington Avenue at 12:06 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a junk vehicle. The vehicle appeared to be regularly driven but did have an expired registration and a warning tag was placed on the door of the residence and if the issue is not addressed in the near future a parking ticket will be issued.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday for an ongoing dispute. Officers spoke with the caller who advised that they have an ongoing issue with their neighbor and wanted it documented that multiple vehicles pull in the neighbor’s driveway and honk the horn for a couple of minutes then leave and that they had video of the incidents and just wanted it on file.
— Officers responded to the 2700 block of East State Street at 11:29 a.m. Tuesday for a report of counterfeit money. A man paid for sporting goods equipment totaling $400 and after the sale one of the $100 bills given was found to be fake. When questioned the man had no idea the money would have been counterfeit and that he would return later in the day to give the amount still owed. Officers seized the counterfeit bill.
— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 10:41 a.m. Tuesday who advised that they had received a letter from a casino in Philadelphia about an unknown person using their identity and bank card. They also advised that they had already contacted their bank and been advised to get a police report. The person just wanted a report on file.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Franklin Avenue at 10:26 a.m. Tuesday for a report of harassment. The caller advised that an unknown man was messaging her inappropriate and derogatory messages on social media and asked officers to advise the man to stop contacting her. Officers spoke with the man advising him to cease all contact and that if his behavior continued, he could face possible charges.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of East State Street at 5:48 a.m. Tuesday for a report of vandalism. The caller advised that a power cord leading to a freezer truck with consumable goods was unplugged from the outside and that a dumpster was pushed into the roadway to access the cord. Extra patrol will be provided in the area where the incident took place.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the 2200 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 5:50 p.m. Monday for a report of the caller’s daughter being harassed by another juvenile. Officers spoke with the other juvenile and their guardian advising them to stop their actions.
— Michelle Dangelo, 66, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after their vehicle on Cunningham Road failed to yield at the intersection and was struck by a vehicle driven eastbound on state Route 344 by Ronald Richards Jr., 49, Salem, at 12:26 p.m. Monday Richards was transported for treatment by the Green Township Fire Department.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:42 p.m. Sunday for a trespass complaint. Officers spoke with the person in question, advising them of the trespass notice.
— Officers responded to the area of Lincoln Avenue and East Pidgeon Road at 11:01 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator entering the township. Officers checked the surrounding areas for the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 8:47 p.m. Saturday for a report of am out of control man. The man refused medical treatment after being recently transported twice for substance use.
— Officers responded to Benton Road at 6:24 p.m. Saturday for a crash involving an Alliance police cruiser. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was dispatched to take the report. Officers stood by to assist as needed and no injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 11:12 a.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that they believe the person in question was on drugs and when officers arrived, they found the man to be under the influence of something. After speaking with the man officers were able to identify that he had used cocaine earlier in the morning, and the man advised that he was willing to go to the hospital to be evaluated. EMT responded and transported the man to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
— Officers responded with the fire department and EMT to the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 11:54 p.m. Friday for a possible overdose. EMT transported the man to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
— Officers responded to reports of shooting in the 200 block of West Pidgeon Road at 8:50 p.m. Friday. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the issue.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 8:10 p.m. Friday for complaints of loud screaming. Officers spoke with a resident who advised that he had been yelling but nobody else was home. Officers were given permission to check the property but were unable to locate any other parties at that time.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 5:48 p.m. Friday for a report of an unresponsive 65-year-old man. Officers found the man with no signs of life and contacted the Columbiana County Coroner’s Office who cleared EMT to transport. Officers found nothing suspicious and stood by until no longer needed.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 9:15 a.m. Friday for a report of property damage. The caller advised that she observed a postal worker striker her mailbox with the postal vehicle damaging the mailbox and post.
— Officers on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 62 and state Route 45 at 12:27 a.m. March 19 located a single vehicle accident. Officers found a vehicle with disabling damage to its front whose driver had already left the scene. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 12:30 p.m. March 18 for a wellness check. The caller advised that she was speaking with the resident and could hear the girlfriend yelling about a drug dealer. Officers found the children to be fine and spoke with neighbors and the complex manager. Officers found that the man had run from his apartment to a neighboring one wanting to use their phone while wearing his boxers and a T-shirt and pushed past the resident at the door. After using the phone, he was walked back to his apartment, but officers could not find him there. Officers were unable to locate the man but spoke with him by phone and advised him to return or he would face charges.
Leetonia
— A noise complaint was received at 7:07 p.m. March 22 in the 600 block of Columbia Street. Upon arrival, the officer heard no loud music.
— A female subject called dispatch at 7:05 p.m. March 25 and requested her ex-boyfriend be removed from her residence in the 400 block of Columbia Street. Since he had established residency there and receives mail at the resident, he was provided a police escort to remove some of his personal belongings before leaving the property without incident.
— A silver truck was reportedly doing donuts near the Greenway Trailhead on Washington Street around 4:59 p.m. March 22 and reportedly left the property per the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office.
— A Leetonia man reported at 9:24 a.m. March 25 that multiple devices had been purchased using his Discover card at Xfinity online. The company gave him a report number and directed here to file the report before closing his credit card.
— A suspicious vehicle was reported at 10:58 p.m. March 25 near the kitchen entrance of Leetonia school. The vehicle was unoccupied but running. A moment later, the custodian, who had a remote start on the vehicle, had started it from inside.
