Salem

— Officers on patrol in the area of North Broadway Avenue and East Second Street at 11:38 a.m. Thursday observed a vehicle without two working break lights. Officers conducted a traffic stop and found that the driver, Lorenzo Florencio, 37, Salem, did not have a valid driver’s license. Due to a language barrier and being unable to call for a valid drive to obtain the vehicle Davidson’s Towing responded to impound the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 7:12 a.m. Thursday for a report of telecommunications harassment. The caller advised that a man was sending him threatening text messages over a property dispute. Officers spoke with the man in question advising him to cease contact with the caller and that there could be possible charges if they continued to contact the caller.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Ohio Avenue at 12:20 a.m. Thursday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with both parties and the incident will be sent to the prosecutor for review. One person agreed to leave for the night.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of North Broadway Avenue at 11:38 p.m. Wednesday for a reported reckless operator. Officers located the vehicle in question behind Euro Gyro.

— Officers responded to Walmart at 7:36 p.m. Wednesday for a report of theft. Asset protection had already brought the person into their office. Officers spoke with the person and employees and were advised that asset protection did not want to pursue charges and the person agreed to pay for the items.

— Officers responded to the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and Bricker Street at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a reckless operator. The caller advised that a vehicle was driving in reverse down the roadway and the smoking. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the area of Filbert Avenue and East Wilson Street at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a person yelling in the parking lot. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised they were upset and calmed down while speaking with officers then left.

— Officers responded to the area of East Pershing Street and Woodland Avenue at 6:06 p.m. Wednesday for a reported crash. A vehicle driven by Judson Edling, 38, Salem, failed to yield from a stop sign on Woodland Avenue and struck a vehicle driven eastbound on East Pershing Street by Shelley Chappel, 70, Salem. EMT checked on Chappel, and Edling had an active warrant out of Columbiana County and was taken into custody and transported to the police department for processing prior to transport to the Columbiana County with an additional charge of failure to yield. Chappell’s vehicle was towed by Sinsley’s Towing.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Sharp Avenue at 5:54 p.m. Wednesday for a report of juveniles playing in a dumpster. Officers spoke with the juveniles who advised they were making a fort out of recycled boxes. Officers spoke with the parents and advised them of the complaint.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 4:01 p.m. Wednesday for a reported reckless operator traveling into the opposite lane of traffic. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 3:03 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a person appearing to have passed out in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Officers spoke with the man who was alert and didn’t need any assistance.

— Officers responded to the area of East State Street at 2:26 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a possible hit and skip. The caller advised a semi making a right turn onto South Ellsworth struck a fire hydrant, causing it to come up from the sidewalk. Officers obtained photos of the damage, and the water department was contacted to fix the hydrant. Officers attempted to search for the vehicle in question but were unable to locate it.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a possible sex offense involving a juvenile. Officers were advised of incidents that had occurred within city limits back in 2022. Officers gathered information and advised a police report would be made, and child protective services would be notified.

— Officers responded with the fire department and EMT at 2:03 p.m. Wednesday for a reported suicidal person. The person in question admitted to taking too much prescription medication. They were transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.

— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Merle Road at 12:23 p.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that the vehicle had been sitting on the roadway for multiple days not moving. Officers were unable to locate the driver, and a 48-hour warning tag was placed on the vehicle to be moved off the roadway.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 12:19 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check on a juvenile that was reported to be sitting on a woman’s lap driving in the parking lot. Officers located the vehicle which was unoccupied in the parking lot and observed a child’s car seat in the backseat of the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 2100 block of Monroe Street at 11:08 a.m. Wednesday to assist the fire department and EMT with a medical call. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of East State Street at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday for a reported criminal trespass. The caller advised that the previous day a man came into the store two hours late for a job interview and began yelling at them about not getting the job because he was late. The caller told him to leave and not return and that since then the man called the store multiple times and was harassing employees via Facebook. The caller wanted the man trespassed from the property and no further contact via phone or email. Officers were able to contact the man, advising him of the complaint, and he advised he would not return to the store.

Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies were dispatched at 6:15 a.m. April 12 to Steubenville Pike Road, Center Township, for a suspicious person. Deputies spoke to the caller who reported hearing noises in and around their trailer. Deputies searched the inside of the trailer and the surrounding area. Everything appeared to be fine.

— A domestic dispute was reported at 4:17 a.m. April 12 on Lakeview Road, Hanover Township. Both parties were separated and talked to by deputies upon their arrival. The male and female said no violence or threat of violence occurred and both agreed to sleep in separate rooms for the evening. A domestic refusal was signed by both parties.

Highway Patrol

— Keith Banfield, of Wooster, was cited at 7:28 a.m. April 10 in Elkrun Township on a charge of improper backing, after he backed into a vehicle driven by Audrey Barborak, of state Route 517 in Lisbon, at a stop sign at state Route 517 and Fairfield School Road.

— Chase Forbes, of Fife Coal Road in Wellsville, was cited at 8:25 p.m. April 8 in Salem Township for left of center, after failing to negotiate a curve on state Route 558, crossing the center line and striking an oncoming vehicle driven by William Barnes, of state Route 30 in Lisbon.

Leetonia

–An officer responded at 1:48 a.m. April 11 to the first block of Hazel Street for an unruly juvenile.

–The school resource officer was dispatched at 4:18 p.m. April 14 to the 200 block of Ridge Street for a child neglect complaint after a first grade child was left on the school bus due to no parents waiting for him at his residence. Eventually the officer spoke with the boy’s mother, who had been having vehicle trouble.

–A Columbia Street woman requested extra patrols of her neighborhood at 6:17 p.m. April 16, citing threats from an ex. The ex was verified to have an active warrant for domestic violence with a warning to approach with caution. This information was passed along to midnight shift.

–Police investigated a Facebook transaction dispute over the sale of a sewing machine at 3:08 p.m. April 9. After the buyer failed to pay for said item through CashApp as promised, she returned the item to the police who returned it to the seller after the investigation was completed.

Columbiana

— An officer responded shortly after noon April 11 to a private property crash in the 44000 block of state Route 14.

— Police took scam reports at 1:17 p.m. April 9 in the 400 block of North Middle Street and at 3:15 p.m. April 10 in the 500 block of Springfield Road.

— A custody dispute out of jurisdiction was reported at 6:06 p.m. April 9 on station. The parties were advised of the correct jurisdiction and information regarding seeking a protection order.

— Teresa Briones was issued a summons for theft around noon April 8, after an investigation at Drug Mart.

— Police responded at 8:10 a.m. April 8 to the 300 block of West Salem Street for a death investigation. There was no indication of foul play, so EMS handled transport to a funeral home.

— A neighbor dispute over a dog at large was reported at 7:07 p.m. April 7 in the first block of 7th Street.

East Palestine

— Officers responded to three unruly juveniles at the Dairy Queen on South Market Street at 2:50 p.m. on Monday.

— Officers assisted a person locked out of their residence in Park Avenue at 8:47 p.m. on Monday.

— Officers spoke to a female and her juvenile daughter regarding telecommunications harassment at 9:49 a.m. on Sunday at the station.

— Officers arrested Matthew Runkles, no age, East Palestine, and charged him with OVI, driving under suspension, fictitious plates and tampering with evidence following a traffic stop on East Martin Street at 9:59 p.m. on Sunday. Rosie Faulkner, no age or address provided, was also charged with tampering with evidence during the stop.

— Officers responded at 4:41 p.m. on Saturday to South Washington Street to a report of suspicious individuals. Officers made contact and the individuals left the area without issue.

— Officers spoke to a woman at 5:05 p.m. at the station on Friday regarding a violation of protection.
