Salem
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 2:49 a.m. Thursday for a reported civil dispute. The caller advised that his brother’s girlfriend had started an argument at another location causing him to bring his brother home with him for the night to avoid any further issues. They advised there were other issues involving money, rent and the living situation, and he was advised the issues were civil and provided possible ways it could be handled after everything calmed down between the involved parties.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of East State Street at 9:02 p.m. Thursday for a report of threats. The caller advised that they received several calls throughout the day making threats towards the business. Officers found the phone number to be from out of state, and it appeared to be a prank call.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Broadway Avenue at 6:21 p.m. Thursday for a reported theft. The caller advised a man left the store with a bag of items without paying. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone.
— Angel Aviles, Youngstown, was cited for assured clear distance ahead at 3:16 p.m. Thursday after her vehicle struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Lachelle Malone, Salineville, in the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East state Street.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Oak Street at 12:51 p.m. Thursday to assist the fire department and EMT with an upset person. Officers found the person to be calm and advised the patient was being transported to the hospital.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:49 p.m. Thursday regarding a roommate issue. Officers were advised that the caller allowed a person to stay at her residence for a few weeks and they are now refusing to leave. Officers advised the caller that they must evict the person and go to the courthouse in Lisbon to start the process.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Hawley Avenue at 11:25 a.m. Thursday for a reported vehicle complaint. Officers were advised that three vehicles have not been moved from in front of their residence for weeks, and that one has been there for months. Officers left a red tag notice on all three vehicles advising them the vehicles are to be moved every 48 hours.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 11:06 a.m. Thursday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. The person in question was placed into custody and $120 was seized as evidence.
— Officers were advised of a possible sex offense that occurred in the city over a year ago at 11:03 a.m. Thursday. Information is being obtained, and the matter will be under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 10:51 a.m. Thursday for a report of a runaway juvenile. The mother advised that her son was picked up from the residence for school at 8 a.m. Thursday and received a call from the school stating that he had gotten off the school van and run away. While checking the area officers located the juvenile behind a gas station and the mother responded to take him home.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Buckeye Avenue at 8:45 a.m. Thursday for a reported reckless operator. The caller advised that a vehicle nearly struck a juvenile while dropping off their kids at Buckeye Elementary. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers on patrol in the 1400 block of East Pershing Street at 8:28 a.m. Thursday observed a transformer damaged by wildlife on a utility pole. Some residents in the area did lose power, and Ohio Edison responded and fixed the damage.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:08 a.m. Thursday who advised they had left their shoes at a person’s home that they needed back, and they were not answering. Officers went to the residence in question to recover them and were given the shoes, returning them to their owner.
Sheriff’s Office
— An unruly juvenile was reported at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday on Tenth Street Extension, Yellow Creek Township.
— A woman on Union Street, Washingtonville requested at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday that a man be removed from the residence. The eviction process was explained to her due to the man living there.
— Green Township EMS, Mahoning County, called at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday to request that a deputy assist with a medical call for a combative, intoxicated unknown male at a residence on Union Street, Washingtonville. A deputy spoke to two men who both said they were fine and did not call for EMS. Jeffrey Gowen Jr., was taken into custody on active warrants out of Columbiana County Municipal Court and taken to the county jail. He appeared in court on two counts of domestic violence for allegedly threatening to assault another man and a woman and slit their throats on Aug. 1, 2024 in Washingtonville.
— Deputies at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol with a two-vehicle accident in the 30800 block of U.S. Route 30, Hanover Township.
— A woman on Bayard Road, West Township, reported 10:10 a.m. Tuesday that her neighbor took her garbage can. A deputy spoke with the neighbor, who returned the garbage can and said she got the wrong one from the designated area where they’re placed for pickup.
— A Knox School Road, Knox Township resident reported at 10:33 p.m. April 26 that his 15-year-old son got scammed by sending $100 on social media to an unknown person and now the person is harassing his son for more money.
— A Lisbon man called at 9:56 p.m. April 26 to request a welfare check on a relative on Foxden Drive, Salem, who said she may have passed out. Upon arrival with Winona EMS, she said she was fine.
