Salem
— Officers responded to the 900 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for a reported domestic in progress. The caller advised that their brother had started yelling at her and headbutted her and had a large red mark on her forehead. Officers spoke with the brother, Robert Nye Jr., 56, Salem, who denied headbutting his sister and that the incident was verbal. Officers took Nye into custody for domestic violence and transported him to the police department for processing prior to transport to the Columbiana County Jail. The caller completed a written statement.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 2 a.m. Saturday for a report of people throwing things outside the caller’s residence and into his driveway. Officers checked the area, but nobody was located.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 1:27 a.m. Saturday for a reported fight. Officers located the person in question but were unable to locate anyone in the area.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 12:33 a.m. Saturday for a report of a loud party with possible underage consumption. When officers arrived a group of individuals outside took off running and others entered the residence. Officers checked the area and located two people running northbound in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue and were stopped. Officers found that Brant Allison, 20, Canfield, and Kaden Hively, 20, North Georgetown, had been consuming alcohol under legal age and were taken into custody charged with underage consumption and transported to the police department for processing and were later released with a court summons.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 11:05 p.m. Friday for a report of people digging through garbage cans and arguing. They advised that they were looking for a cell phone that was left outside in a box that had disappeared.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 10:14 p.m. Friday for a reported assault. Officers spoke with several people involved and learned that one man had been assaulted by another who left the area. Officers also learned that the two had a traffic misunderstanding and the man did not want to pursue the matter legally.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Third Street at 6:47 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a woman who appeared to be on drugs was trying to speak with his children on his property. Officers located the person, who they were also advised had been walking around in the area without her shirt on, and advised her to leave her clothes on and sent her on her way.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 6:05 p.m. Friday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that her tenant had goats living in the house and began yelling at them. Officers advised the tenant that the situation would be forwarded to housing and zoning. Officers also advised that goats were not permitted within the city, and he could be cited for harboring animals.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 5:48 p.m. Friday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with taking a person into custody for engaging in prostitution. The person in question had responded to an online ad to solicit sexual acts in exchange for $140 and was transported to the police department where the money was seized and placed into evidence. Due to the person being from Florida he was secured in the Columbiana County Jail by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:43 p.m. Friday for a possible scam. The caller advised that they had been in contact with a resident in the city for several months in an attempt to purchase a puppy and when they went to the address given were advised that the person doesn’t live there. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West State Street at 11:59 a.m. Friday to provide traffic control for the fire department and Ohio Edison while an electrical problem was being repaired. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 11:06 a.m. Friday for a reported intoxicated driver. Officers observed the vehicle run a stop sign and make several more turns before entering a private drive. Officers approached the vehicle and the driver Augustin Rojop, 25, Salem, refused to get out and was eventually taken into custody charged with OVI, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, and open container and transported to the police department for processing prior to release to a sober party.
— Officers responded to the 2500 block of East State Street at 10:23 a.m. Friday for a wellness check on a woman pulling a wagon on the roadway. Officers spoke with them and advised them to stay on the sidewalk.
— Officers responded to the wooded area of the East Fourth Street Extension at 10:09 a.m. Friday to check for a person allegedly living there. Officers checked the area on foot and observed a hat, shirt, and blanket scattered near a small fort. Nobody was located in the area and the articles of clothing appeared to have been there for some time. Officers will check back periodically and have night shift officers checked the area as well to make sure nobody is sleeping there overnight.
— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 10:03 a.m. Friday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised they had observed a man working on the house next door walk behind the house and urinate by the back shed. Officers spoke with the man who advised he was sorry, and it wouldn’t happen again.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Rose Avenue at 1:42 a.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. Officers spoke with the person and advised them to gather their things and move along.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 12:23 a.m. Friday for a reported overdose. First responders and EMT were unable to wake the man up and he was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for treatment. No drugs or drug paraphernalia were present.
— Officers responded to the area of Meadowview Drive and Westview Avenue at 11:44 p.m. Thursday for a suspicious vehicle. Officers found the vehicle to be unoccupied, and everything appeared to be okay.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 10:03 p.m. Thursday for a report of menacing. The caller advised that they were receiving threats from an ex; however, after seeing the messages it was determined that no threats of harm were made. The caller was advised to block the ex on all social media platforms and her phone, not to contact them, and to call if they show up at the apartment.
— Officers on patrol in the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 6:41 p.m. Thursday observed a suspicious vehicle parked near a residence. The vehicle in question had left prior to the officers’ arrival.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Sixth Street at 6:02 p.m. Thursday for a wellness check. Officers knocked on the door for several minutes but were unable to contact the person in question.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 2:32 p.m. Thursday for a reported dispute. Officers found the dispute to be over household rules and that nothing physical had occurred.
— Officers responded to the area of North Howard Avenue and West Second Street at 2:18 p.m. Thursday for a reported reckless operator. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver and issued a warning for driving a semi car hauler off the state route.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Elm Avenue at 10:20 a.m. Thursday for a reported suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that there were two people sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 10 a.m. Thursday for a reported parking complaint. Officers did not locate any violations.
— Officers responded to the 2200 block of East State Street at 9:10 a.m. Thursday for a wellness check. The driver was found to have just fallen asleep and nothing else appeared to be suspicious or concerning.
— Officers responded to the area of West State Street and South Howard Avenue at 8:47 a.m. Thursday for a report of two suspicious people. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the person in question.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Hawley Avenue at 2:45 a.m. Thursday to assist Goshen Township officers with an investigation. Officers spoke with the homeowner who advised that they had not seen the person in over a year.
